The IXL Engineering Dept. Head, based in Jacksonville Florida, leads the Wayside Applications team to achieve Engineering QCDP and KPI targets through active contribution and allocation of the appropriate technical resources, processses, methods and tools. In this role, the Engineering Dept. Head is responsible for consistently mentoring, and coaching Application Engineering managers and their teams while providing technical leadership to Signaling projects in North America. This role contributes to the overall strategy of Signaling & Infra Systems (S&IS) Engineering and manages complex issues within technical and process areas requiring signaling expertise. This is a Senior Engineering Manager role reporting to the S&IS Engineering Director and will have Engineering managers as direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Wayside Applications  teams to deliver within cost, schedule, quality, performance, and safety targets
  • Ensure that processes, methods & tools are applied consistently across projects and actively contribute to their continuous improvement
  • Responsible for managing and/or mitigating technical risks and that opportunities are realized
  • While working with Engineering Directors, Dept. Heads and Engineering Managers, create and implement resource deployment strategies across projects
  • Ensure the Product Solution and Safety Certification strategies are aligned with the project solution requirements and design for projects executed
  • Ensure best practices and REX are identified and shared across projects
  • Ensure that the necessary Customer and System Requirements are properly flowed down to and accepted by the Wayside Applications team
  • Provide full scope of leadership for direct reports, including performance management & evaluation, workload management, annual assessments, salary planning, and employee development
  • Optimize efficiency and productivity of the Wayside Applications team
  • Support implementing performance improvement initiatives and competitiveness improvement initiatives
  • Develop, implement, monitor and report team KPIs

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering with 15+ years related industry experience
  • 5+ years experience managing an Interlocking project team
  • Extensive knowledge in the field of Electronic and Conventional Interlocking, Level Crossings, DC ad AF Track Circuit, covering the entire engineering life-cycle
  • Strong understanding of Mainline and Urban rail signaling system design methodologies, standards (AREMA, CENELEC, IEEE, etc.), and safety concepts
  • Technical knowledge of Alstom product lines and associated integrated rail signaling systems
  • Proven Leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a matrixed team across multiple sites
