Alstom has an opening for an IXL Application Engineer, in its Rochester, NY location. The IXL Application Engineer will be responsible for defined work on projects with moderate complexity. They will follow an individual work plan and meet day-to-day short-term objectives. To be successful, the individual will need to have the ability to resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities
- Designs new/modified signal systems in response to contract related requirements per company standards and customer specifications under the direction of a Wayside Systems Lead or System Engineer
- Investigates, troubleshoots, and provides recommendations in resolving complex, unique or major problems. Collaborates within the teams in resolving problems as defined above
- Receives mentoring from Wayside Systems Leaders and System Engineers
- Participates in technical discussions with customer to represent/protect the company interests under the direction of a Wayside Systems Leader or System Engineer
- Designs include electro-mechanical circuit design, relay-based and /or microprocessor based logic, HW and SW interfaces, material selection, and equipment rack layouts
- Interfaces with internal/external contacts to include vendors, subcontractors and prime contractors on technical matters under the direction of a Wayside Systems Leader or System Engineer
- Assists in generating schedule, budget and product/system specifications as required
- Assists in generating technical proposals and cost estimates as requested
- Provides input/modifications to departmental work instructions and procedures when required
- Maintains project related files, documents and revision control of documents under their direct control
- Develops project related requirements for products from customer specifications for new or modified designs under the direction of a Wayside Systems Leader or System Engineer
- Provides and develops accurate material lists for both internal and external requirements on projects
- Troubleshoots problems identified during factory and field test offering possible technical solutions to minimize impact
- Keeps abreast of technologies used by the company, industry to remain current and prepared for technology changes within the work environment
- Travels to the customer site as required to perform field test and supports commissioning of systems
- Experience in a project environment including interface with manufacturing
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or an Engineering Technology Degree with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Railway Signal Engineering or related field
Desired Experience
- Prior experience in signal engineering principles and practices
- Knowledge of relay as well as microprocessor based interlocking systems
- Knowledge of application of engineering design automation tools
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to establish and maintain good customer relations
- Strong oral and written communications skills
