Purpose of the Job
To fulfill an ICC (Integrated Control Center) Design Authority mandate within the context of different ICC-TMS Projects which typically deliver one ICC System consisting of at least one ICONIS/TMS Product and at least one of the following subsystems: SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), ATS (Automated Train Supervision) and MSM (Maintenance and Security Management).  
 
It is important to mention that the Design Authority combines a leadership and technical role. The first one includes mentoring and coordination of other Engineers to ensure consistency of the system solution across subsystems and other components while the technical one aiming to ensure that specifications and operational context descriptions are consistent, meet the customer’s needs and expectations (within the context of the contract) while minimizing the product gaps.

 

Context:
The ICC design authority will be involved from the beginning to the end of Alstom’s development V-cycle, more precisely during the specification, architecture, implementation, integration and validation phases of ICC-TMS Projects. Another important part of the mandate is to review subsystem documentation and provide support to subsystem teams to ensure consistency of subsystems with the overall system. On top of all that, the Design Authority Engineer, has the responsibility of the overall solution.

 

This role will evolve in phases: in a first phase the ICC-TMS Design Authority will participate in closing the current TMS based projects (MARTA, SEPTA and TTC), support their transition to a maintenance phase and discuss/define/lead the variation orders (VO).  In a second phase, the mandate will be to migrate of the ICC-TMS projects from the TMS product to the new generation of ICONIS product (roadmap to be defined, based on the VO to be discussed with the customers). 

 

Objectives:
To coordinate with other ICC-TMS Engineers to ensure consistency of the system solution across the TMS projects.
To take ownership of the TMS product (from the system specification, architecture breakdown, software architecture, down to the source code) and support the changes that needs to be done on the product (from small fixes to complex variation orders).

To lead  and mentor a team (in an Agile way) of software developer to support evolution/correction to be done on the TMS product and TMS projects.
To advise or participate at writing and updating System specifications, ensuring that all requirements are achievable and measurable; to write Operational Context Documents (including User Stories)
To advise or participate at the integration process of the released versions of the different subsystems, Alstom Products and external interfaces  
To advise or participate to the validation process of the System as a whole (including different subsystems, Alstom Products and external interfaces) and ensure it meets all the requirements, as per Alstom documentation and per customer original contract
 
Requirements:

Business Understanding
Railroad industry knowledge, ATS, SCADA, Management System, Control Center

Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Automation, or equivalent

Behavioral and Technical  Skills / Competencies
5-years experience in Railway industry or with large Control Center Systems (Energy, Pipeline and similar) and their typical integration challenges
10-years experience in Software development (Software Requirements, Software Architecture, Software Integration, Software Validation):
•    Experience with development of complex applications in C/C++ for Linux Operating System (Red Hat distribution is a plus)
•    Proficient with Configuration management tool (git, SVN)
•    Good understand of data base principles (MS SQL, Oracle) and associated reporting tools (Jasper is a plus)
•    Good understanding of Agile methodology
•    Knowledge of Cyber Security principles

Exposure to at least one ICONIS Product (ATS CF, ATS CT, S2K-AGUI, S2K-UHMI) is an asset

Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, as well as excellent presentation skills
Ability to understand and to write User Stories (Operational scenarios)
Ability of technical decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness, problem solving

 
Job Location
Remote / Rochester (NY) USA.
Occasional travels, in Canada/US, to assist at different integration and field-testing activities and partake to customer meetings
