This position is located in Rochester, New York, but could also be located in Melbourne, FL or Grain Valley, MO.
Alstom has an opening for an ITCS/CBTC Systems Engineering Manager. The Systems Engineering Manager leads projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business. In this role, you will be responsible for providing daily technical leadership to address the backlog of projects in North America as well as some international projects. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within functional areas of signaling expertise. In particular this role will focus on guiding the design and deployment of the Positive Train Control (PTC) Solution of the Incremental Train Control System (ITCS) and the Communication Based Train Control System (CBTC) Solution of Urbalis.


  • Lead and manage the System Engineering team including development needs and resource planning 
  • Technically lead tenders for PTC and CBTC and capture new business
  • Develop and implement strong technical solutions for portfolio of NA PTC- related signaling projects 
  • Provide overall architecture and gap analysis to Bid Management to ensure executable bids are proposed
  • Lead project team, including partners, thru design reviews to identify & manage technical risks and implement corrective action where appropriate
  • Liaise with customers either on or off site as necessary
  • Provide full scope of leadership for direct report (s), including performance evaluation, annual assessments, salary planning, and employee development


  • Bachelor’s engineering degree from an accredited university or college
  • At least 5 -7 years of experience in an Engineering management role


Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Technical knowledge of product lines and associated integrated rail signaling systems
  • Proven Leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a matrix team / organization
  • Sense of urgency in dealing with issues and tasks
  • Ability to anticipate events and develop adaptive strategies / remedies
  • Strong customer mindset
  • Prior experience in Positive Train Control or CBTC rail signaling systems is preferred
  • Ability to drive and manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
