Alstom has an opening for a detail-oriented, proactive, self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment to fill the role of  Compensation Manager - North America.


As a Compensation Manager, your primary objective is to effectively and efficiently manage all fixed and variable compensation for employees at all levels within the organization. In this role, the Compensation Manager's responsibiliy includes the following: 


  • Manage and integrate compensation programs, policies and procedures to ensure programs are market competitive, internally equitable, cost effective and align with Human Resources and  Business objectives within the North America Region and within the corporate global structure. The compensation manager will represent the Alstom North America Region to the Alstom Global Total Rewards Community.
  • Conduct position evaluations and act as Region Expert for job evaluation system. Train HR on evalulation system as applicable 
  • Review and make recommendations for salary structures, merit budgets and market competitive base and variable pay programs. Responsible for participation and/or procurement of market studies to ensure ample market data is available for all positions and keeps abreast of market fluctuations in each city/location of operation.  Support compensation structures for new work locations.
  • Review and make recommendations for pay practices to support a variety of professional and paraprofessional positions and working conditions such as overtime, shift and holiday pay, field work and flex hours.
  • Provide advice to Human Resources colleagues on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.
  • Manage executive compensation programs and support the proposal and implementation of new ones. Manage the merit increase and incentive payout programs as well as the Pay Equity programs in Canada.
  • Develop techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data in support of new programs and documentation of successfulness of existing ones.
  • Maintain awareness of federal, state and provincial compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.
  • Support benefit program compliance and implementation as well as domestic relocation and International HR activities.
  • Act as a champion for innovation.


Required Qualfications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources; Finance; Psychology.
  • 10 years experience in compensation/total rewards management (CPP, SHRM-SCP desireable).
  • Experience working in a global environment.
  • Working knowledge of US and Canada compensation rules and regulations (knowledge of benefit management and compliance desirable).
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel within the USA and Canada.
  • Working knowledge of US and Canada immigration rules/regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through processes, identify and implement process improvements and resolve complex matters.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (OS 7 or greater); advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
