Purpose of the Job: 


  • To assure the performance and functionality of electro technical products and accurate diagnosis of repairs by testing for their compliance against specifications using test protocols.

Test and diagnose products for their functionality and performance and continuously improve protocols, diagnosis and test coverage.





The activities of the test engineer require understanding of:

  • Power electronics circuitry, i/o processing circuitry, control electronics, PLC systems.
  • Electrical schematics, wiring tables, bill of materials, assembly drawings.
  • Test protocols and test boundaries, test inspection sheets.
  • Measurement equipment.
  • Normative standards, Alstom production- and safety standards.



The test engineer is able to

  • Visually inspect products for configuration and orientation of components.
  • Perform high voltage isolation tests.
  • Setup test installations and its wiring towards the equipment under test.
  • Design / make test jigs & tools.
  • Maintain test installation and procedures.
  • Connect and program the wiring/connection test computer.
  • Test the products for their electrical functionality and performance by verification in a test setup using the appropriate measurement equipment and test protocols which are validated by Engineering and/or customer.
  • Accurately record the test equipment and test results in the test database and test reports. To identify errors in the tested products and record the deviations.
  • Archive test reports and revise them when samples are resubmitted for test.



  • Identify missing or wrong information and initiate updates for e.g. test protocols.
  • Detect systematic errors and initiate their resolution.
  • Identify non-conformities in the product or workmanship and liaise with the Quality Inspector to record and process them in internal NCR’s.
  • Liaise with Engineering to increase test coverage.
  • Launch Engineering Change Requests (ECR).



The repairs are submitted to the test engineer who is able to:

  • Categorize the type of failure.
  • To identify the plausible cause of the defect.
  • To choose an appropriate test setup and the set appropriate signal values.
  • Trace the cause of failure without causing further damage.
  • Identify the components that need to be replaced and record the material codes.
  • Record the findings in the repair database.
  • Collect ways of working during diagnosis, build and maintain workflow flowcharts or revise test protocols to increase test coverage.



The test engineer is required to:

  • Liaise and communicate with Shop Floor team leader for the efficient planning of work orders and to prioritize them. Clearly communicate the results of execution of the work orders.
  • Register task times in the work orders using SAP.
  • Take over activities in case of absence of colleagues, in testing or assembly/repairs.
  • Occasionally do testing at customer site or project locations, mainly in the Netherlands.
  • Actively participate in Shop Floor Management meetings, contribute in process flows and procedures, 5S lean, visual management, EHS.

Competences & Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3 years of experience at an Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • Dutch & English language verbal & writing
  • Team player
  • Communicate easily

  • Cope with diversity in work orders and different maturity levels of protocols
  • VCA
  • NEN3140
  • Forklift
  • Crane operator
  • Experience in SAP is preferred
