Leading societies to a low carbon future, Alstom develops and markets mobility solutions that provide the sustainable foundations for the future of transportation. Our product portfolio ranges from high-speed trains, metros, monorail, and trams to integrated systems, customised services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions. Joining us means joining a caring, responsible, and innovative company where more than 70,000 people lead the way to greener and smarter mobility, worldwide

Alstom Ridderkerk works with national and international partners to develop and maintain rail vehicles. This varies from trams in the Randstad, to rail vehicles in the BeNeLux, and from hybrid shunting locomotives in Germany and Switzerland, to metros in Mexico.

For our location in Ridderkerk we are looking for a software engineer with affinity in Cybersecurity.

As software engineer in this role, you deliver software modules by ensuring detailed design and implementation of these modules. You will review and propose solutions for cyber security cases. It is your responsibility to contribute to the elaboration of software specification & architecture, in collaboration with the software architect. To make this happen you work on in-vehicle and vehicle-to-shore connectivity which is essential for efficient and effective vehicle operation by our customers. Techniques such as condition-based maintenance are being introduced more widely.

For older vehicles, which do not yet have communication capabilities and use internal railway-specific bus systems, it is often a challenge to unlock the available information. You can think of new vehicles as IT environments on wheels with good communication.

In both cases, it is important that the associated aspects such as routers, firewalls, QoS, but also data acquisition towards the cloud and cyber security are properly arranged.

The Alstom software focuses within the vehicles on closed-loop controls, operation, steering and information provision. We also make maintenance software that usually runs on a laptop and for data analysis we make acquisition, transmission, conversion and analysis software.

During development and validation, we use scale models of vehicle parts developed within Alstom and HIL simulations.

Our focus in Ridderkerk is on providing services to customers. This often requires adapting or replacing existing software. In order to obtain and maintain the level of knowledge of this software, usually produced by other Alstom branches, it is important to work well internationally and to properly manage scale models on which this software can be tested.

We do all this with a multitude of techniques and programming languages; from IEC 61131-3 to Matlab Simulink and from C to C# and from Python to R. So, experience in Embedded C is required and at least one object-oriented language is a strong preference.

The challenge lies in the enormous variety and multidisciplinary character of our work, in which dated and state-of-the-art technology must be combined.

So, are you looking for a challenge and do you have 3+ years of experience as software engineer? Are you able to communicate in both Dutch and English and able to operate in a multidisciplinary project-team? Do you have knowledge of and experience with cyber security; best practices, pitfalls, standards, and solutions? Then apply for this job!
