Your future role

As a senior buyer at Alstom you will be the driving force behind the procurement of direct technical components under competitive conditions, according to our quality requirements, under the right delivery conditions and recorded both in short or long term contracts.  Responsible for your own commodity portfolio, you will be working together in a diverse international procurement team and interacting with different colleagues across the company (e.g. Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, Quality, Project Management etc.). You will be responsible to make strategic decisions that have a major impact on our service business in general. Naturally you also ensure cost savings, efficiencies and delivery performance.

You will handle direct procurement activities and much more as a senior buyer. Direct procurement includes the purchase of various components, furniture for rail vehicles, relays, printed circuit boards, passenger information systems, HVAC systems among other things. So it is an absolute must that you have experience in a comparable technical environment so you have a good understanding of what is required for the business.

You will:

• perform market analyses;
• make a selection of suppliers being part of the global commodity supplier panel or in collaboration with the global commodity buyers.
• manage and improve procurement processes;
• negotiating contracts, delivery times and other conditions with suppliers;
• working with different departments to determine procurement needs;
• performing cost analysis and setting benchmarks for cost savings;
• ensuring that we work in compliance with the law and with our company policies;
• monitor supplier performance and resolve issues and discrepancies;
• develop strategies for managing risks;

We have offices in Utrecht, Ridderkerk and Rotterdam and you will meet your colleagues for various meetings. Apart from those meetings you can work in any office and also partly from home. You will work together in a team of 10 people.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who works independently and who is good at transcendent thinking. You are a reliable person who works transparently and communicates clearly.

You have:

• A bachelor education in the field of Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering and/or Business Administration
• A completed Nevi training is an advantage

• 7 to 10 years of relevant experience as project buyer/strategic buyer within dynamic technical environment
• Extensive knowledge of contract management, market analysis, cost-benefit analysis and total cost of ownership
• Affinity with technology
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.

• Knowledge and experience with SAP is an advantage

• Good communication skills in both Dutch and English
