As Functional Tester Working on Southern regional projects< you will be responsible for undertaking testing activities, independent of the design and installation function, to work within company and group standards to ensure all equipment is tested to specifications.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW
The role of a Functional Tester will report on a day to day basis to the Tester in Charge and may be responsible for a team of up to four testers. A licenced Functional Tester may be asked to mentor un-licenced testers and support other team members with development. This will be recorded on the un-licenced testers’ mentorship plan and forms, and will liaise professionally with internal project staff and the clients’ representatives at as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Safe delivery of the testing for component parts of a signalling scheme 

· To ensure that work is completed compliant to the contract and to group standard
· Undertake works within limitations identified within Network Rail Certificate of Competence
· Actively work to self-develop and increase testing competencies and abilities
· Identify variations to contract & pass to Project Manager
· Control the daily work in line with the testing & commissioning plan, WPP and Task Briefings
· Motivate associated staff allocated
· Effectively communicate task requirements to peers and interfaces
· Compliance with Alstom testing procedures
· Identify potential process improvements and make recommendations for implementation
· Undertake COSS / SWL duties and ensure a safe system of work is maintained
· Ensure safe methods of working are maintained
· Maintain Verification/ functional testers license
· Attendance at arranged Technical briefing sessions
· Maintain IRSE Logbook
· Attendance at monthly specific Safety briefings, project and Alstom
· Responsibility for tools and equipment issued
· To comply with and undertake all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures and activities

 

Post Holder Requirements

Essential Skills:
· Numerate & literate
· Auditing · Presentation Skills
· Communication Skills

 

Qualifications:
· Functional Testers Licence · Valid PTS ac/dc certificate
· Emergency First Aid
· Manual Handling
· OLEC 1

 

Experience:
· Knowledge of contract conditions · Understanding of planning process
· Knowledge of risk assessment process
· In-depth underpinning knowledge of group & line standards
· Commercial awareness
· Knowledge of HSE requirements
· Appreciation of design & installation
· To hold any necessary certification that the client deems essential.

 

Desirable Skills:
· Report writing · Driving Licence

 

Qualifications:
· ONC or equivalent in Elec. Engineering · Associate member of IRSE
· Mod 1 Licence 1.3.190
