Purpose of the Job

  • A Sub-Systems Engineer is responsible for the development of coupling system, gangway, windscreen, windows. He assures the performances as well as the reliability, maintenance and safety requirements of each sub system in line with the customer requirements. A Sub- Systems Engineer provides technical input for many aspects of projects, including design and system integration and providing support in order to facilitate the delivery of projects within time and budget and maintain customer satisfaction. The role is fundamental in translating customer requirements/needs into appropriate solutions by providing system engineering expertise across all stages of the project’s lifecycle as an instrumental part of multidisciplinary teams. Engineer analyse technical issues and work closely with Suppliers to develop and integrate solutions in a timely manner. 



  • Review and analyse requirements: Customer, legislative and local Standards.
  • System Requirement analysis, clarification, interpretation and alignment with other engineering disciplines and suppliers to establish common technical view
  • Write Technical requirement documents and functional analyses and define the system concept, write technical descriptions;
  • Define budget (Hours and travel expenses), plan and write contractual technical documents (Clause-by-clause);
  • Estimate technical risks and define mitigation plans, evaluate technical offers from suppliers, select supplier;
  • Prepare and lead design reviews with the supplier, with other departments and with the customer;
  • Follow-up of engineering planning and anticipate on potential delay;
  • Verify and write the test procedures on sub-system level made by the supplier and validate test results and write test reports;
  • Systems failures analysis, troubleshooting and solution development and integration in coordination with other engineering disciplines and suppliers
  • Support managing and documentation of system configurations;
  • Prepare Train-level concepts for the sub-system (e.g. Diagnostics Concept, Security Concept, Train-to-Wayside Communication Concept, etc.);



  • BSc/MSc degree in Engineering or a related subject;
  • Solid understanding of systems life-cycle and corresponding activities;
  • Has 2-5 years minimum practical experience with system life-cycle activities ;
  • Experience in the design and integration of railway systems;
  • Experience in system failures analysis, troubleshooting and solution integration;
  • Experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements;
  • Good knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel), soft viewer;
  • Basis knowledge of CATIA (3D model)
  • Excellent competencies of communicating in English and French.
