Engineering Manager

(Porto or Lisbon)


Purpose of the Job


You will be in charge of managing the Engineering team (resources and activities). The scope of work includes the competency management in line with the team mission and the team size definition and resources allocation in line with the needs coming from Bids and Projects.

As a Engineering Manager, you will interact with all team members, so your communication as well as your motivation skills should be excellent. Your role will be to define the path for continuous improvement of performance and effectiveness of your team.




  • Deploy D&IS (Digital & Integrated Systems) Process, Methods and Tools in Projects Engineering team
  • Estimate / Validate activities quotations of Projects Engineering for tenders and projects
  • Develop and maintain métier / domain competences, developing World Class Engineering Experts
  • Define and implement orientations for his/her department, in liaise with his/her manager (team profile, discipline evolutions in terms of technology, department competitiveness, …)
  • Manage adequacy between estimated workload and capacity, taking into account subcontracting & business strategies (platform priorities), and allocate adequate team profile & size to Projects/Bids
  • Coach resource from his/her team when they request support and continuously develop their technical and methodological skills
  • Commit in Project/Tender QCD (Quality/Cost/Delivery) related to its métier/domain
  • Provide to Reference Library Manager, Reference Library (cost structure & cost drivers) of his/her métier / domain and improvement roadmap in line with Solution competitiveness roadmap + progress report, REX & variance analysis (RefLib deployment, costs, gaps…)
  • Implement & contribute to definition of his/her D&IS discipline processes (common methods and best practices) and provides REX on methods & tools
  • Promote continuous improvement by REX
  • Continuously motivate, encourage, evaluate, train and develop resources, in cooperation with HR, as per approved performance targets
  • Secure the Alstom Communication process to his/her team and report to RC Projects Engineering Director information about his/her department activities
  • Apply PMC (People Management Cycle) inside his/her department
  • Promote Alstom values to his/her team.


Educational Requirements


  • University degree preferably in Engineering
  • Advanced level of written and spoken English and Portuguese.
  • Advanced level of written and spoken Spanish - desirable.


Desired Knowledge / Experience


At least 5-year experience in engineering and/or system integration team management, in particular:

  • With scope of signalling projects (Urban, Mainlines)
  • Full engineering lifecycle coverage from System activities to Commissioning phases
  • International projects with multi-site organization.
