The Industrial Engineering team here at Plymouth is a key function supporting the reactive and proactive needs of the manufacturing plant, for current and new products.  We are a dynamic team with diverse skills including Material Inspection, Quality Assurance, Production Support, Test Engineering, CAD Design, Product Configuration, Automation & New Product Introduction across mechanical and electronic disciplines.


These skills are put to good use on a range of Analogue and Digital Signalling equipment for the safety critical rail industry including Trackside, Onboard and Equipment Cabinets applications. It is a fast moving and dynamic environment where Team Working is key.

Purpose of role


This role is critical to the ongoing success of the manufacturing plant, reporting into the Industrial Engineering team.


You will be responsible for the Total Preventative Maintenance of critical equipment as well as any reactive day to day maintenance of hand and automated equipment for a range of mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.


This equipment includes hand soldering, crimping, torquing tools, Ventilation systems, Encapsulation systems, ESD protection devices and HMI controlled automation equipment.


Key responsibilities


  • Regular maintenance of production equipment
  • Organising contractors for specialist maintenance activities and upgrades
  • Management of contractors and application of the permit to work process
  • Assisting in the development of risk assessments, manufacturing production procedures associated with the production equipment for maintenance and manufacturing
  • To undertake Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) of all listed production equipment with the aim of maximising equipment, tooling, and machine productivity through a proactive standardised maintenance regime and to record results at the specified intervals
  • Support the manufacturing cells in the use of training of all newly introduced production equipment and to provide the business with assistance in the choice of production equipment
  • To undertake reactive breakdown maintenance of any failed production equipment and liaise with vendors for repairs, maintenance, and spare parts where necessary
  • Management of the Critical Equipment Matrix annually to ensure it is up to date with requirements fed into CAPEX processes and to ensure the site OEE is maintained



What do I need to qualify for this job?



Essential Requirements


  • ONC in an Electronic / Electrical Engineering discipline (or equivalent) OR relevant experience
  • Practical experience of production equipment maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance procedures
  • Experience in using SAP or other ERP system
  • Proven ability to be able to investigate production and test faults
  • Experience of Continuous Improvement 
  • Experience of safety critical systems for rail and / or transportation industries OR similar
  • Be able to demonstrate adherence to Total Preventative Maintenance Principles
