Employing 6,000 people within the UK & Ireland, we are the prominent supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet, as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground and Dublin Luas.
Purpose of the role
Software development (with electronics background) for embedded platforms featuring DSP or FPGA. Applications will include SIL-rated communication systems for railway signaling and offshore oil and gas.
Responsibilities
Key accountabilities:
- Write software for DSP, FPGA or Microprocessors.
- Follow and implement a structured software development process (V-Cycle Model, Agile, SW architecture, SW Tests, HW/SW Interface, etc).
- Agree software strategy and solutions together with the hardware and software development team.
- Verify and validate software authored by others.
- Prepare presentations to summarize the work produced to the management.
- Analyse Safety and Functional Compliance.
- Document activities to a standard in line with EN 50128 and IEC 61508.
- Debug/Fault Find new and existing systems issues (mainly related to software)
Performance measurements:
- Actual vs planned number of development runs
- On-Time Delivery
- Number of detected vs non-detected issues during V&V.
- Number and quality of documents released
Requirements
- BSc (or higher) in electronic engineering or computer science is preferrable but would consider relevant experience in the same or similar role
- Demonstrated experience to work in a structured and multicultural organization.
- Railway industry experience is highly desired.
- Automotive or aerospace industry beneficial.
- Good team player, confident on skills and capabilities and multitasking.
- Comfortable to work and explore the full product development cycle at 360°: research, development, manufacturing, service, quality, etc.
- Very high level of IT literacy, capable to interact at every level by a range of means (speech, text, remote, …).
- Demonstrated experience in SW development following a structured and agile approach applying a V-Cycle Model.
- Several years of experience in writing code following a structured and robust approach by using C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog.
- Development experience in at least one of the following: microprocessors, DSPs and FPGAs.
- Familiarity with electronic schematics and PCB layout.
