Purpose of the Job

 

A Sub-System Engineer is in charge of:

  • in a tender or contract execution project:

    • supervising and validating sub-system selection

    • managing sub-system development with supplier and customer (through the TPM/TSE-TDE-TCE and SE)

  • during the activity of “Product development”:

    • adding products to the standard solutions catalog and updating existing ones (development with suppliers)

Responsibilities

Accountable for :

  • Allocating requirements and mechanical interfaces to Sub-Systems/equipments  (Allocated volume, weight, location, etc.)

  • Monitoring the Mechanical Sub-Systems/equipments deliveries conformity with project needs.

  • Ensuring resolution of Project Mechanical issues and challenging actions (single domain)

  • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Mechanical scope (single-domain).

  • Defining Project Mechanical Decomposition in Digital Mock-Up 

Responsible for :  

  • Resolving Project Mechanical issues and challenging actions (multi-domains)

  • Coordinating different TD contributors on Project.

  • Defining Project punctual priorities to TD project team.

  • Analysing and consolidating change request impacts on SS scope

  • Establishing trainset layout with bogie architecture principle and defining mass and Center of gravity per vehicle type and bogie

  • Validating Transverse Requirement Specifications (Weight, Vibroacoustics, etc.) in close collaboration with the Train System Engineer.

  • Collaborating with other metier/department

  • Establishing Certification & Validation Plans for TD scope.

  • Involved with many aspects of rail transist vehicle systems and subsystems design aspects such as vehicle coupling systems, passenger door operation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, carbody shell and electronic components.  

  • Background with various materials and finishes for corrosion control.

  • Material strength consideration for structural application, experience structural design and the utilization with finite element analysis.

    Project Engineering

    General:

  • Ensures that standard solutions catalog and catalog management process is fully and well applied in project by using the appropriate standard solutions metier tools (Connector, costing tool…)
  • Prepares DR with suppliers (sub-system/product level) or with TPM/TSE (train/product integration level)
  • Ensures the quality of the deliverables
  • Manages the technical Sub-System PSLI/RAMP
  • Ensures that standard solutions design rules are applied by Platform and Sourcing actors.
  • Supports the sites if requested on critical technical issues
  • Reports the progress of the project (meetings, weekly/regular report) and
  • Is in charge to follow its work-package and budget
  • Tender Phase:

  • Use PLEIADE to populate connector and define the relevant product with gap analysis, jointly with BTM and TPM/TSE
  • Prepares the technical assessment for cost commitment involving Procurement and Bid team (TPM/TSE/BTM)
  • Issues the technical description of the solution proposed to the Customer
  •  

    Contract Execution Phase:

  • Confirms the product selection or not based on gap analysis (connector 0 to connector 1) as per update of customer RFP.
  • Drives technical development of the product until GFV in close relationship with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

 

 

Profile Required:

Education: Minimum,  Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).  Other degrees considered based on experience.

Experience:  At least 10 years of industry experience in any discipline.  Experience in the mass transit discipline a plus or commercial truck/automotive industry.

Skills:  Communication skills, both written and verbal, working in a team environment,  able to lead small teams, knowledge of Microsoft products,  supporting manufacturing environment, support internal and external (customer) design reviews. 

Knowledge:  In addition to what is defined in the job description, the following knowledge is beneficial.  Background with two and three dimensional CAD packages, finite element analysis,  familiarity with industry documentation standards/applications, knowledge of train systems at the vehicle level a plus.
