As part of the project we will design, manufacture and maintain 246 new railcars needed for METRONET projects and the replacement of the A-series trains. We will also deliver 6 DMU railcars to replace the five diesel railcars that operate the twice daily Australind service between Perth and Bunbury.


Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this role would see you perform all mechanical installations to complete the assembly of the train, where no day will be the same! We have several opportunities for both qualified and unqualified, Mechanical Fitters (Mechanical Tradespeople or Mechanical Trade Assistants) to join our team at Bellevue to enjoy a range of benefits and a close knit, hardworking team environment. These positions are full time, 2 year fixed term positions. Role duties include; 

  • Read, apply technical documentation supplied
  • Install and assemble railway vehicle components using standard work procedures, hand & power tools
  • Use and manipulate lifting and transporting devices such as overhead cranes to install, replace and align subassemblies and components
  • Ensuring that all work is efficiently planned in Bogie Shop and Assembly workshop, controlled and undertaken in a safe manner to the standards set down by the customer and Alstom
  • Perform self-Inspection of railway car components in order to identify defects and ensure quality
  • Remove and replace defective parts and components
  • Proficiently cross reference technical documents and highlight any discrepancies to the supervisor and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and production targets
  • Work closely with support functions to identify and propose suggestions for continuous improvement
  • Organize work instruction documents, tools and railway car parts daily

 

All about you. We value passion and attitude over experience and don’t expect you to have every single skill - Fundamentals requirements are outlined below;

  • Certificate 3 in Mechanical Trade (this could include boilermaking, pipefitting, machinist, mechanic etc) - if in doubt, please reach out for our qualified mechanical roles, and for our Trade Assistants - no qualification is required but relevant experience in a similiar role is required
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions
  • Experience in production or assembly would be great but not mandatory
  • Aware of and respect for safety for self and others and a good contributor to the team
