Purpose of the Job


The Project Manager acts within the boundaries of the Alliance Contract and under the guidance of the Project Director’s authority to deliver the objectives to the customer and to deliver the targeted margin to Bombardier. To this effect, the Project Manager assists the Project Director in leading the Project Core Team in the successful completion of their assigned tasks within schedule, allocated budgets and scope to the required quality. The Project Manager will lead the project and cope with the unique challenge of continually focusing on a pro-active management that the functions keep their delegated budgets, meet their schedules and deliver on their obligation.


Key Responsibilities:


Functional duties to the Project Core Team through assisting the Project Director

  • Responsible for the WBS, Detailed Project Schedule, JDDP, Customer Interface, Stakeholder Interface, Project Risk, Opportunity and Improvement Management, Project Launch (including the Orange Book), Change Management and Contractual Obligation Management, Budget allocation and monitoring, Project Reporting internally and externally both status and financial performance


Co-Leadership duties within the Project Core Team

  • It is also the mandate of the Project Manager to define and secure the support of the business partners and extended project team (ensure IS is contacted in an early phase of the project with sufficient lead time. For new remote sites, be aware that the process is much longer)
  • The Project Manager is responsible for adapting his/her leadership and motivational skills to the project, the team or individual's capabilities and knowledge, the time and tools available and the results desired. (S)he will develop “must do” strategies to increase team effectiveness and the belief that "none of us is as good as all of us.", in order to help the team go through the distinct stages of ‘forming, storming, norming and performing’


Specific responsibilities to other Project Core Team roles

  • It is also the mandate of the  Project Manager to adapt the allocation of work packages between the roles and the day-to-day delegation of special tasks to the Project Core Team members in order to optimize the total project in accordance to the Technical Director


Key Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, project management or commercial discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience
  • Minimum 5 years combined CBTC Experience, ATS / AOS Experience (on board signalling equipment), Conventional Signalling Expertise required
  • previous experience in representing Alstom at senior levels with customers and partners
  • Previous experienced in managing large team
  • A degree of understanding of how alliance’s work – previous experience within an alliance (preferred)
  • Previous experience leading a multi discipline project team
  • Familiar with signalling technology
  • Experience in risk and opportunity management
  • Experience in issue management
  • Experience in people management
