Job Purpose

The role will report to the Head of Engineering (HoE) to support with the planning and execution of the engineering plan, and to deploy and service Nomad technologies Globally. The primary role of this position is to manage the engineering team within the Western EMEA region, champion engineering change, support the product and delivery teams to ensure quality of delivery within the technical team. To own problem management on topics that are generic to the organization’s product range, and the associated performance and reliability analysis arising from such investigations.

 

Leadership Role: To lead and control all areas of Engineering change by maintaining a best-in-class technical contribution to the Company, being fully accountable and responsible for all functions including:

 

Strategy

·        To work with the HoE to continuously improve the Global engineering team, its processes, and product delivery capabilities through management of change, problems, and planning.

·        To work closely with Senior Technical Managers in the management and development of strategic planning and with regular feedback in designing, developing, and deploying scalable Engineering strategies that will lead to increased company and client satisfaction.

·        To apply creative thinking, analysis, and good judgement to propose innovative solutions to engineering problems, which may involve a range of diverse approaches.

·        To be responsible for the introduction of new and relevant working practices for the purpose of realising efficiency ensuring the optimal application of all resources to meet new and existing Engineering activities ensuring the implementation of processes that support departmental functionality and their processes.

·        To effectively plan engineering resource to ensure that the agreed organizational utilization needs are met.

Functional Planning

·        Responsible for the delivery of all engineering protocols, planning and ensure project management staff use proper internal project Engineering and Delivery procedures.

·        To own, support, and continuously improve the end to end delivery process for deploying Nomad Digital solutions to customers Globally.

·        Oversee team project planning, prioritization, resource management and completion of team and engineering deliverables on-time.

·        To contribute to the allocation of tasks and utilisation rate for all members of the team with input from Delivery to determine best practice project dependencies.

·        To ensure correct and fit-for-purpose Nomad processes & procedures to ensure that developed methodologies are adopted and followed.

·        Ensure regulatory compliance and best design standards are met.

·        To provide continuous improvement to Nomad Digital process, procedure and methodologies.

 

Financial, documentation and reporting

·        To report on status of key projects, activities and processes detailing success failure rates with accurate performance reports, forecast data and analysis.

·        Review cost estimates and proposals generated by the Sales, Bid and Delivery teams.

·        Creation of Engineering compliance documentation including release notes.

·        Providing reports to the HoE on progress and development of the Engineering team through regular engineers reviews.

·        To be monitor Key Performance Indicators and metrics

 

Collaboration and Support

 

·        Supporting the Engineering interface to Product, including hardware and software product releases.

·        Assisting Technical support teams during customer contact by email/phone.

·        Assisting with relevant Departmental Heads in the generation of customer high-level network designs.

·        Cultivate and maintain cooperative relationships across the Nomad Group and identify areas of commonality and efficiency.

·        Respond to feedback from stakeholders and use it to make improvements or adjustments in line with PDCA management cycle.  

·        Grow and nurture cross site and cross functional relationships in a large, multi-site, matrixed organization

·        Maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction for new and existing customers.

·        To ensure effective and transparent internal communications both within the department and across the organisation using appropriate tools in place.

 

Other Duties

·        To be responsible for their own work planning against objectives set in agreement with the HoE.

·        To perform similar duties as deemed necessary for the proper execution of both their duties and such duties as delegated by the HoE.

·        To undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as may be reasonably expected of the role and as necessary to achieve the strategic objectives of the business.

·        Corporate representation of the ND business as required.

·        To administer and direct all technical efforts of the Company toward efficient completion of the Company goals and objectives.

·        To stay up to date with practices, and general engineering related disciplines through seminars, literature, and peer groups and disseminate when required.

·        To be fully conversant and to demonstrate full compliance in Nomad and Alstom Values, QHSE & Quality practices, and Ethical guidelines

 

Qualification Requirements

  • Engineering degree plus professional accreditation CPEng (desirable)
  • Rail experience (desirable)

 

Experience Requirements

  • Previous work experience as a successful Engineering Manager or another similar high-level technical leadership role
  • A demonstrable record in managing complex technical issue and resolutions.
  • Proven track record in Engineering Change Management systems.
  • Stakeholder Management experience.
  • An ability to network at a peer level and at a higher-level regulatory level
  • Comprehension of budget planning and reporting
  • Understanding of business planning within a matrix organisation
  • Knowledge of technology trends
  • Rail experience Preferred
