As a Rail Signalling Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of signalling systems on the

Ottawa LRT system.

The candidate has a key role as technical source for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on both mechanical and

electronic signalling equipment.

Candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

 

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Project Engineering manager, you will be responsible for:

- Execution of the Services Engineering activities in the Ottawa project for Signalling systems including VOBC and track side and centralized systems

- Develop and keep update the work instructions and processes from the maintenance plan and maintenance manuals

- Lead investigation and analysis of complex issues discovered in day-to-day operation
- Assess, train, and continuously support development of technical competencies of Sig & Comm technicians

- Develops standardized tools/processes improving efficiency in maintenance activities

- Manages the technical performance of the systems within scope and provide Rex to relevant Services Platform

- Support Configuration and Design Change Management of the Project

- Support obsolescence management of the project

- Support cost reduction actions, with sourcing and industrial departments

- Detect, define, and implement the modifications of the maintained products to improve the reliability and serviceability, to reduce project costs and

   improve the performance of the systems

- Optimize the scope and related tasks of the Maintenance plan

- Interfaces with the stakeholders in the Certification processes

- Analyses the technical performances of the systems and the efficiency of the maintenance plan and processes, promoting action plans to improve them
- Analyses failure criticality studies and uses Reliability Centered Maintenance and other available methodologies to define and optimize the maintenance

   requirements, tasks, and intervals
- Support the release of project reports (contractual reliability and availability targets)

- Set-up and follows standardized and continuous fleet reliability improvement plans, proactively surveying fleet KPI and promoting improving actions

- Development of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) model by sub-system and reporting
- Searches for improvement actions in maintenance operations, performing engineering interface activities with Operations Engineers
- Promotes the use of latest maintenance technics (Condition Based Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance)

- Calculates material, parts, and time consumption

 

Educational and Professional Requirements

     - Mandatory: Four (4) year degree in Electrical/Communication or Computer Engineering or other relevant discipline

     - Desirable: Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or in progress towards attaining P. Eng certification

     - 4+ years of experience in previous rail signalling system reliability/safety engineering experience
 

Skills & Competencies

     - Strong team player

     -Knowledge of railway Signalling including moving block equipment and maintenance required

     -Good knowledge of working with GSI, SES, IMIRS

     -Interacting with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimum outcome

     -Experience in railways signaling system testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance

     -Familiar with applicable standards for Signalling in North America

     - Strong technical writing, data analysis, and reporting skills required

     - Knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment

     - Skilled with MS Office
     - Problem solving capacity (technical and costs evaluation of a solution)
     - Capacity of managing Technical risks
     - Self-motivated
     - Attention to details
     - Ability to work independently
     - Desire to learn
     - Effective, professional interpersonal skills
     - Fluent in English mandatory

     -Hands-on experience with field measurement and testing of various signalling equipment (onboard and wayside)

     -Knowledge of Citadis LRV control system is an asset

     - General knowledge across rail engineering aspects and operations with specialist in at least one key area such as: Train Control/Signalling,

       Traction Power, Rolling Stock, Station Equipment, Communications, Track Infrastructure, and Structures is an asset
