OCS system feeding the traction current to the Rolling Stock through its pantograph. They encompass either classical flexible catenaries, or rigid systems, mainly used in tunnel sections. The main components of a catenary system are: Catenary masts and their foundations, Catenary fittings in particular the cantilevers, suspensions, and anchoring systems, Electrical cables in particular the contact wire, and  Electrical & sectioning devices.

 

As an Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of OCS network on the Ottawa LRT system. you will deliver quality engineering, and will also be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment through the application of acquired electrical/mechanical diagnostic skills.

Candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

 

 

 

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Owns the Configuration and Design Change Management of the Project; 
  • Manages the technical performance of the systems and provide Rex to relevant Services Platform; 
  • Optimizes the scope and related tasks of the Maintenance plan; 
  • Supports cost reduction actions, with sourcing and industrial departments; 
  • Detects, defines and implements the modifications of the maintained products to improve the reliability and serviceability, in order to reduce project costs and improve the performance of the systems; 
  • Manage the project OCS field operational risks and the corresponding mitigation plan;
  • Identify which are the applicable regulations in the customer and ensure they are taken into account in the OCS Work Method Statement (WMS) and resources;
  • Define the criteria and process for the Verification activities;
  • Manages Obsolescence Plan; 
  • Captures and ensures ownership of regulations and standards to be applied; 
  • Interfaces with the stakeholders in the Certification processes; 
  • Develops the work instructions and processes from the maintenance plan and maintenance manuals; 
  • Analyses the technical performances of the systems and the efficiency of the maintenance plan and processes, promoting action plans to improve them; 
  • Manages the technical documentation within the system and any required interface with the MMIS; 
  • Develops standardized tools/processes improving efficiency in maintenance activities; 
  • Set high expectations for results and hold colleagues accountable to the measurable KPI scores associated
  • Assures efficient parts codification in line with Platform rules: materials identification, codification process, interfaces with Alstom systems, quality and normative requirements; 
  • Elaborate project monthly maintenance report (contractual reliability and availability targets); 
  • Set-up and follows standardized and continuous fleet reliability improvement plans, proactively surveying fleet KPI and promoting improving actions; 
  • Development of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) model by sub-system and reporting; 
  • To ensure all work is carried out in a safe, proper and thorough manner taking into account Health and safety legislation, OCS policies and procedures, risk assessments and method statements;
  • To be contactable, in an emergency, outside of working, make operational decisions, and coordinate an appropriate response to ensure business continuity;
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client and staff information.
  • Management of risks and savings related to the LCC; 
  • Proposes actions to optimize Maintenance plans and LCC; 
  • Searches for improvement actions in maintenance operations, performing engineering interface activities with Operations Engineers (depot support); 
  • Promotes the use of latest maintenance technics and R&D developments (Condition Based Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Lean); 
  • Analyses failure criticality studies and uses Reliability Centered Maintenance and other available methodologies to define and optimize the maintenance requirements, tasks and intervals; 
  • Calculates material, parts and time consumption;
  • Provide inspection reports and other reports required by client.

 

 

Educational and Professional Requirements

     - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Railway Engineering or other relevant discipline

       Minimum of 4 years of experience in previous OCS system engineering experience

     - Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or in progress towards attaining P. Eng certification is preferred

     - Strong technical writing, data analysis, and reporting skills required

     - Knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment

     - Skilled with MS Office
     - Problem solving capacity (technical and costs evaluation of a solution)
     - High levels of self-motivation, technical inquisitiveness, enthusiasm, and commitment
     - Attention to details
     - Ability to work independently
     - Effective, professional interpersonal skills
     - Fluent in English mandatory

     - Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards
