Could you be the full-time Maintenance Vehicle Supervisor in Ottawa, ON, CA we’re looking for?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your leadership and technical expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dedicated and collaborative teammates. You'll supervise, assign, and coordinate the daily maintenance functions and activities for a unionized work force of Electro/Mechanical Technicians and Cleaning/Service personal. You'll ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures; distribute task assignments; resolve maintenance issues; investigate accidents; inspect systems equipment; train and/or re-certify staff; ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; strive to maintain a harmonious partnership with union rules and managerial requirements. We’ll look to you for:
- Planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of assigned staff,
- Assigning work activities and coordinating schedules, projects, and programs,
- Providing constructive feedback, and reviewing and evaluating work and making effective suggestions and recommendations,
- Monitoring, verifying attendance, absenteeism, punctuality, approving and submitting weekly hours to the payroll department using ALISTA electronic time keeping system.
- Creating reports, training documents and presentation materials with Microsoft office Suite Word, Excel and Power Point necessary for the creation of reports.
- Allocating and validating work assignments to maintenance team members utilizing the SES computer program.
- Utilizing the SES and SAP electronic data collection programs, preparing daily light rail vehicle serviceability status reports for distribution to the other Alstom project members and consortium partners.
- Interviewing perspective candidates for employment opportunities within the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) maintenance department.
- Coaching, training, and motivating staff; providing staff training. Taking appropriate corrective action or recommending corrective action when necessary; providing advice and counsel to staff; providing input and/or recommending corrective actions, discipline, and termination procedures as appropriate when necessary.
- Supervising and directing the daily preventative maintenance to ensure quality workmanship.
- Scheduling the medium and heavy LRV preventative maintenance inspections as specified in Workflow Management System.
- Supervising maintenance technicians for re-railing of LRV within the maintenance storage facility and mainline track territory. Subsequently supervising and directing rescue of effected LRV’s back to the maintenance and storage facility bad order track.
- Conducting accident / incident prevention and investigation.
- Providing support to the division/department and others on matters as directed; serving as staff on a variety of committees as assigned; preparing and presenting staff reports and other necessary correspondence; attending and participating in professional group meetings; maintaining awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporating new developments as appropriate; ensuring processes, policies, and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensuring accountability and compliance with all current and applicable provincial and federal laws, agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
All about you
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (an asset),
- Experience within railway industry (5+ years preferred),
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Familiar with Quality, Cost and Delivery targets
- Knowledge of union environment in Canada
- Sense of urgency and able to meet daily deadlines
- IT literacy, including proficiency with SAP, time recording tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Fluent in English
