The Safety Manager will ensure all applicable safety rules and regulations are understood and being complied with. That employee’s are fully trained in Health Safety and Environmental matters, following and in compliance with the Bombardier HSE OHSAS 18001 Safety Management system.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Champion the local HSE Safety Committee sharing meeting minutes with all members of the management team. Ensuring follow-up on concerns and or countermeasures.
  • Train employees on HSE regulations, compliance, developing risk assessments and the use of, incident/accident investigations, Material safety Data Sheet usage and control, as well as training in the various HSE Standard Operating Procedures covering such topics as fall protection, sharpies, etc.
  • Foster of a strong HSE culture drawing upon best practices within Bombardier and the industry.
  • Ensure all incidents/accidents/near misses are reported and entered into the electronic database.
  • Take appropriate actions in regards to safety matters as necessary.
  • Make recommendations to the Key Management team on HSE matters.
  • Participate in daily, weekly and monthly performance reviews with the “key management” team as requested.
  • Participate in visual management reviews with each department to validate the department’s focus, performance, key issues, safety performance, concerns and countermeasures.
  • Measure the team’s performance in regards to specific HSE KPI’s including safety inspections, safety observations, efficiently testing, corrective actions identified, workplace inspection, and corrective actions taken.
  • Perform safety audits and formal observations of the work place, employees performing tasks, equipment, tools and equipment and surrounding.
  • Monitor tooling, PPE, and equipment to ensure compliance with regulations, safety inspections are maintained, in line with Quality procedures, the OEM intended use, form, fit and function. Items such as forklifts, portable grinders, compressors, slings, chains, etc.
  • In the event that employee safety is at risk or has been compromised, post containment of such danger, issue a standardized all Employee Safety Bulletin ensuring the topic forms the basis of either a safety stand down if warranted or start of shift safety discussion.
  • Participate in the monthly Bombardier Corp safety performance review conference call.
  • Be available to NCTD as required.

 

REQUIRED PROFILE:

 

  • A minimum of nine years’ of relevant experience in the US commuter rail industry.
  • Experience leading and managing a safety program with strong understanding of regulations governing the managing and handling of safety programs, training obligations and record management.
  • The ability to challenge peoples perceptions, coach, mentor and influence.
