COASTER Overhaul Technician 


This is a hybrid position between a machinist, electrician, and passenger rail inspection & repair. This position will be responsible for the overhaul of the COASTER passenger car fleet which involves the removal, teardown, repair, and installation of interior and exterior components.  You will be working with mechanical, electrical, electronic and HVAC systems on rolling stock equipment and components in accordance with FRA standards and guidelines. Additional responsibilities will include the inspection, testing and maintenance of wheels sets and brakes, repairing suspension and pneumatic systems on rolling stock equipment and components.



  • Repair and replace rail equipment in accordance with 49 CFR regulations
  • Remove interior components, recondition and reinstall new upgraded components to provide for a superior passenger experience
  • Dismantle, assemble and replace new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as HVAC, brake, pneumatic system, truck and car body equipment and sub-systems
  • Propose improvement to equipment, practices and maintenance programs
  • May perform grinding, buffing, welding and burning
  • Test finished products to ensure they operate as intended and meet FRA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management based on train availability or repair schedule.
  • Follow all Bombardier security and safety instructions or procedures to prevent any personal injuries and maintain a safe fleet that will meet the demands of a reliable commuter service.



  • Completion of High School or GED is required (technical school or apprenticeship program is a plus)
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment is required (Automotive/diesel training is a plus)
  • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment is preferred
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of mechanical and electrical tools and equipment
  • Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems is preferred
  • Experience in rebuilding, repair, and replacement of components
  • Welding, grinding and metal cutting experience is a plus



  • Verbal Comprehension (understand oral and written communications – both general and technical)
  • Communication Skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  • Reasoning Skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
  • Strong leadership and team building skills



  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Requires passing a post offer medical examination, drug and alcohol test
  • Requires random testing for drugs and alcohol
  • Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned job
