HIERARCHICAL MANAGER
Supplier Quality Manager
MAIN OFFICE LOCATION:
- Located in Nigel (Ekurhuleni) at the production site
- The role will involve frequent travel to Customer depots [Ermelo, Gqeberha (P.E), Richards bay, Kimberly) and various Alstom suppliers.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
- Manage strategic and operationally the problem solving for quality issues appearing in revenue service and maintenance of RSCand SERVICES Product lines, related to externally purchased parts & Spare parts.
- Be involved once the characterization of the issue is done until the REX is captured.
- Work on behalf of the Project Product Introduction Manager (PrPIM) who remains accountable for the achievement of the project reliability targets and support the charge back to Supplier (CONQ: Cost of Non-Quality)
- Work with Depot Manager & Depot Quality, during maintenance period and ensure non-conformities treated (Kx, NCRs,)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The SQ warranty & Maintenance Engineer leads Supplier Quality Warranty & Maintenance activities
- Is the interface between Alstom team and external suppliers for problem solving of supplier quality issues occurring in revenue services & Maintenance Period
- Leads progress & monitors the completion of containment, corrective action and solution implementation as defined
- Ensure Supplier quality portal is properly used for Supplier quality related issues which occurs during Warranty & Maintenance period, including the proper notifications of issues to suppliers.
- Problem Solving: work with Supplier and Supports the project for RCA and find solution, related to critical issues ( Kx) , Non critical ( NCRs) within defined Target lead time for D4 & D6 KPI
- Manages supplier performance during Warranty & Maintenance period, with a dynamic escalation process (Yellow, Red in & out)
- Supports procurement and contract manager to consolidate CONQ (Cost of Non-Quality) for claim recovery / back charge process
- Reports / Escalates to SQ manager to unblock critical situations through escalations / Management meeting
- Implements the proper organization (way of working, warranty & Maintenance process, people, management routines, budget) in each depot and reacts in case of difficulties or quality drift. Manages its team
The SQ warranty & Maintenance Engineer support the problem solving in revenue service
- Verify the quality of the description and characterization done by Project, Project PI, Depot, Maintenance team, complement as necessary to ensure the right understanding of the issue before notifying Supplier
- Ensure that the containment action (D4 KPI) is defined and implemented
- Determine the root cause, drive validated solutions, and implement on the 1st trainset (D6-KPI)
- Supports project by following up with Supplier Periodically for their action and retrofitment completion
- In case of issues arise from suppliers (quality alert) or from projects and impact multi site and regions , SQ Warranty & Maintenance Engineer in Origin would take lead of the problem solving with supplier and share action with stakeholders in all impacted projects & region.
The SQ warranty & Maintenance Engineer manages Return of Experience from problem solving:
- Alerts the Project Product Introduction Manager and Supplier Quality Manager in case of epidemic issues
- Ensures Return on Experience (REX) is captured in every Kx and shared across projects and corrective action deployed in all related projects
- Work with SPQD Region/Cluster and start contributing in SPL risk review, to promote non SPL parts to SPL where issues were detected during warranty & maintenance period.
The SQ warranty & Maintenance Manager / Engineer Supports reliability growth activity with the project in warranty period
- Ensures early capture of quality issues during Test & Commissioning phases and improve the reliability of purchases parts in PI (warranty) period till DLP (warranty phase out).
- Mobilizes suppliers for quick & efficient solving of issues
- Ensures to reach RAMS liability level of equipment and subsystems purchased
- Ensure a handover with SQ serial before the start of warranty period if applicable
The SQ warranty & Maintenance Engineer Supports incoming inspection for goods during maintenance activity
- Control incoming spare part in accordance with control plan and engineering in case of critical change request
- Deploy non conformities management for all non-conforming spare parts detected at incoming
- Use measurement system, control tools and IT systems and ERP (GSI etc)
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
MANDATORY
- Graduated from Technical and/or Quality Engineering degree
DESIRABLE
- Technical expertise (mechanical/electronic/software)
EXPERIENCE:
MANDATORY
- 3 to 5 years of experience in engineering, validation, field reliability growth (*10 years for Manager)
- Knowledge of railway industry (norms, certifications…)
- Pb solving method and Quality analysis tools (8D, Ishikawa, PDCA)
- FMEA product/process
- Control plan
- Crisis management
DESIRABLE
- Knowledgeable of Industrial fields, Supplier Quality, Production, Quality, Procurement or equivalent
- Understanding of technical interdependencies
- Audit Experience
