Could you be our next Production Unit (EPU) Manager in Newport on a 12 month Fixed term contract we're looking for?

Everyone knows the sequel is always better—and that's exactly why Alstom is raising the bar with X'Trapolis 2.0. As we enter an exciting retrofit and ramp-up phase, we have a unique opportunity for a Retrofit EPU Manager to join our growing team at a pivotal moment.

This is your chance to play a critical leadership role in delivering a landmark project that will shape public transport for our community and the state for years to come.

At Alstom Newport, you'll join a high-performing and collaborative team where innovation, accountability, and shared success are at the heart of everything we do. Working within our retrofit program, you'll lead a dedicated team delivering critical train upgrade, modification, and rework activities, helping ensure the successful delivery of the X'Trapolis 2.0 project.

Your future role:

  • Lead and coordinate retrofit EPU activities to achieve project and operational targets.
  • Deliver retrofit scope in line with Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) commitments and project schedule.
  • Lead, coach, and develop production teams in a complex retrofit environment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) standards and promote a zero-harm culture.
  • Define and manage retrofit execution strategy, including work package ownership and planning.
  • Oversee train/vehicle configuration, acceptance criteria, and handover readiness.
  • Act as the primary interface with customers and depot teams during retrofit execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality.

All about you:

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, here are some that will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Hold a Trade Qualification (Cert III in Engineering - Mechanical or Cert III In Electrotechnology).
  • Strong leadership experience in production, retrofit, or manufacturing environments.
  • Solid understanding of project management and industrial processes.
  • Knowledge of rail, heavy industry, or complex engineering systems (advantageous).
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, non-repetitive environment requiring adaptability and multitasking.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
