Purpose of the job: This role is responsible for managing and performing a variety of lab tests to support the Newark SDC engineering team. Tasks include board level inspections/repairs, hand soldering to repair PCBs, programming of boards/systems, designing/fabricating harnesses, light assembly work, hardware testing, and installing/configuring test equipment/fixtures. Support functions extend to incoming parts inspections for non-conformities, return material repair processing, managing test equipment, managing special tooling, field troubleshooting, commissioning, and training.
Key Responsibilities and Challenges:
- Preparing and performing test/repair procedures in-line with OEM, Corporate, and/or FSE requirements/standards. Performing inspections on incoming parts or defective equipment and processing accordingly (ASSETS, RMR, etc,). Documenting, tracking, and trending to improve SDC efficiency.
- Ability to interact with all three shifts as SME and assist O&M technicians to carry out Troubleshooting/CM or testing tasks per applicable workmanship standards. Evaluate technical problems or skill gaps and make initial recommendations for possible corrective actions to supervisors, foreman, and/or managers. Support skills improvement by facilitating training as needed.
- Assembles and maintains test benches/fixtures as well as other equipment needed to manage and extend the life of the system. Supports engineering by designing tests, assembly aides, and other guides for project development needs. Works with various test instruments such as: oscilloscopes, multimeters, chart recorders, data loggers, Bird meters, Simpson meters, temperature devices, force gauges, calipers, and other items.
- Manage Electronics Lab to world-class standards keeping a safe, secure, and structured environment. Leverage qualifications and provide skilled electrical/electronic support to day-to-day activities which may include: special project, reliability, and quality efforts.
- Supporting the serviceability/reliability of the system and making recommendations for hardware/procedural changes that become evident during analysis of performance data. Generate routine and targeted reports as directed. Interact with Material Control as external vendor and submit to performance audits as needed.
Functional Knowledge:
Must be meticulous in work efforts, have proven technical expertise (electrical/electronic), and be knowledgeable about measuring & test equipment (MT&E) utilized to perform day-to-day activities. Ability to adapt new concepts, think critically, and work with data to present root cause as well as corrective actions accordingly.
Must have a solid grasp of sciences and basic electrical/electronic theory.
Knowledge of Business:
- Associates Degree (AS) in Electrical Engineering or 4-year Military training equivalent - Required.
- 5 years’ experience as AirTrain Maintenance Technician (In-lieu of AS Degree) – Preferred
o Prior documented experience in Vehicle/Wayside troubleshooting. - Preferred - Two (2) years’ experience troubleshooting Electrical/Electronic equipment - Required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Ability mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Ability to use basic troubleshooting equipment such as: DMM, Oscilloscope, Frequency Generator,
Spectrum Analyzer, data loggers, etc. - Skilled in use of hand and power tools.
- Soldering/de-soldering experience.
- Application of workmanship standards and ESD standards.
- Knowledge of calibration standards.
- Proficiency in computer software tools such as: MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Vizio.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers. Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working in a team-oriented environments; collaboration with engineering department is essential. Self-motivated with an ability to effectively execute tasks undirected.
Note: This position requires airport security clearence that must be maintained as a condition of employment.
