Alstom has an opening for a railway vehicle Systems Engineering Intern. The position is posted for our Camden, NJ site. In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.

 

What are my responsibilities?

The core function of Systems Engineering is to define the system functional, electrical, and mechanical requirements in line with the train architecture and customer requirements. This role is a hybrid Systems Engineering and Field Service Engineering opportunity.  You will be embedded at an Alstom Operations & Maintenance site, providing direct engineering & maintenance support to a fleet of rail vehicles.

This is an opportunity to contribute to and learn from a multi-functioned and experienced railway vehicle engineering team working on industry-leading solutions for our customers.

You will report to the Train Systems Manager, working alongside Train Systems, Control, Electrical, and Field Service engineers, as well as site technicians to support ongoing rail vehicle projects and operations.

The Systems Engineering Intern will gain first-hand experience working on rail vehicle design, troubleshooting, technical investigation, and contributing to engineering design initiatives to support the fleet operations. 

You will have the opportunity to participate in the following objectives:

  • Provide daily, onsite engineering support for the in-service fleet.
    • This will involve: technical analysis of vehicle design, failure investigations, issue resolution, quantitative analysis of fleet performance.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with rail vehicles, performing troubleshooting and repair alongside fleet service engineers and maintenance technicians.
  • Provide direct site liaison with central engineering team to advance long term engineering objectives for the rail vehicle fleet.

 

What do I need to qualify for this job?

In this role, you are expected to build effective working relationships across a diverse engineering team, with the ultimate goal of delivering complex and innovative engineering solutions that meet our customer needs.

 

Terms

  • The term of the internship is 3-6 months, targeted for the Summer of 2024.

Minimum Qualifications  

Currently enrolled in a 4-year program and have completed at least 2 years of a major in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
