The scope of the GO Expansion project includes new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

 

Purpose of the Job

To fulfill an ICC (Integrated Control Center) Lead System Engineer mandate within the context of different ICC Projects which typically deliver one ICC System consisting of at least one ICONIS Product and at least one of the following subsystems: SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), ATS (Automated Train Supervision) and MSM (Maintenance and Security Management).  

 

It is important to mention that the Lead System Engineer combines a leadership role with a technical one, mainly because he/she is the technical leader of the System Engineering Team and at the same time, the owner of the System documentation, responsible of the cohesion between the System level and the Subsystem level. In a first phase, the ICC Lead System Engineer will participate in detailed specification definition on the Go Expansion Project.  In a second phase, the mandate will be to perform a complete ICC Lead System Engineer role in subsequent phases of Go Expansion project or on other ICC Projects, as described below.  

 

Objectives:

  • To technically lead the system engineering team.
  • To lead the system specification and architecture activities.
  • To coordinate with safety and cybersecurity teams to ensure the mitigation of risks.
  • To ensure the cohesion and consistency of the system documentation (requirements, architecture, etc.).
  • To coordinate with the subsystem teams the cross-functional interface.
  • To write and update System specifications, ensuring that all requirements are achievable and measurable; to write Operational Context Documents (including User Stories)
  • To participate at the integration process of the released versions of the different subsystems, Alstom Products and external interfaces  
  • To participate at the validation process of the System as a whole (including different subsystems, Alstom Products and external interfaces) and ensure it meets all the requirements, as per Alstom documentation and per customer original contract

Performance Measurement

  • Meet all the Project QCDP (Quality, Cost, Delivery Performance) indicators
  • Receive customer approval for all the created/updated Project Specification-, Design- and Integration and Validation-related documents
  • Meet all the Alstom-related objectives

 

Responsibilities

System Team technical leader:

  • Technically lead the system engineering team
  • Coordinate the system engineering activities
    • Define the US needed based on the input requirements
    • Define the baseline for each project phase (deliverables)
    • Define the activity
  • Allocate tasks and ensure system engineering activities follow-up
    • ​​​​​​​Define ICC System workload based on project GAPs to be implementedDefine ICC System workload based on project GAPs to be implemented
    • Work with project planner to set the baseline delivery dates
    • Attribute User Stories and define document author, checker, validator, approver (RACI) for each ICC System team member
    • Follow the progress of the User Stories and documents (deliverables) to make sure they will be delivery accordingly to the schedule
  • Be the interface with other teams to discuss and accept the input requirement allocation
  • Define the scope for each baseline
  • Define and update the User Story process accordingly with project needs and following the ADDA
    • Ensure that the team is following the process (ADDA, User Story, ProofReading, Delivery process, etc)
  • Lead and consolidate the Workshop for ICC System team with customer
  • Interface with other subsystem teams (ETCS, TMS, RBC, Iconis, Turnkey, S&TC, Interlocking, Safety, Cyber, RAM, Quality)
  • Participate in proofreadings and reviews of  documents 
  • Provide ICC System KPIs for OnCorr core team
  • Participate in CCB and supporting in investigation of Change Requests
  • Stablish System Release Notes and Baselines

 

Overall:

  • Design system solution in line with project needs
  • Identify project gaps and evolution path for solutions
  • Discuss system solution with the customer
  • Manage system solution throughout project execution
  • Control internal and external interfaces
  • Ensure solution components are developed properly
  • Define application rules and engineering process
  • Determine system migration and deployment strategy
  • Integrate solution components into functional system

 

System specifications and architecture design:

  • Write System specifications (requirements) and Operational context description
  • Update design documentation based on internal (peer) reviews or customer comments
  • Update and clarify the specifications (requirements) during the design, development, and mock-up presentation phases
  • Ensure the system Architecture and design complies with the RAM, Safety and Cybersecurity requirements

 

System integration

  • Validate technical procedures defining the integration of System, Subsystems and external interfaces
  • Follow-up and provide advice on all the integration activities between the System the Subsystems and external interfaces  

 

System validation

  • Follow-up and provide advice on all the validation activities at System level, dispatch identified anomalies to Subsystems if necessary
  • Ensure that the System complies with all the System requirements and the original customer contract as well as with any other implicit requirements resulting thereof  
  • Support and follow up on Requirements Traceability, starting from the System level, to subsystems and to external interfaces

 

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Automation, or equivalent
  • Member of Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and/or Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) an asset

 

Technical Knowledge / Experience

  • 5-year experience in Railway industry
  • 10-year experience in System Engineering (System Requirements, System Architecture, System Integration)
  • 5-year experience with large Control Center Systems (Energy, Pipeline and similar) and their typical integration challenges
  • 3-year exposure to at least one ICONIS Product (ATS CF, ATS CT, S2K-AGUI, S2K-UHMI)

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French, as well as excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to understand and to write User Stories (Operational scenarios)

  • Experience with Windows and Windows server.
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Clearcase, Perforce)
  • Knowledge of VM Ware, SQL server basics
  • Knowledge of distributed systems
  • Knowledge of network principles
  • Knowledge of CyberSecurity principles
  • Knowledge of Safety principles
  • Knowledge of Agile principles
