Material Handler (Warehouse)

Job Summary The Material Handler is responsible for the accurate and efficient movement, storage, and tracking of materials within the warehouse. This role supports receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, inventory control, and production kitting while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. Key focus areas include shipping and receiving, inventory accuracy and management, cycle counting, order fulfillment, forklift operation, continuous improvement, and clear documentation and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shipping and Receiving
    • Safely unload and load trucks; verify counts, condition, and lot/serial numbers.
    • Process receipts and shipments; prepare labels and documentation (e.g., BOL, carrier labels).
  • Inventory Accuracy and Management
    • Maintain accurate bin locations and system transactions; follow FIFO/FEFO where applicable.
    • Identify and report discrepancies; support issue resolution.
  • Cycle Counting
    • Conduct routine cycle counts and reconcile variances; assist with physical inventories.
  • Order Fulfillment
    • Pick, stage, and pack orders accurately and on time; meet shipping deadlines.
  • Forklift and Material Handling
    • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment safely; perform pre-use inspections and follow all safety procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Support 5S and lean practices; suggest and help implement process improvements.
  • Documentation and Communication
    • Complete logs and system entries accurately and promptly.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and drivers to resolve issues.

Required Profile

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Good communication skills; fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Good computer skills; SAP/GSI knowledge is an asset.
  • Attention to detail; positive attitude; willing to learn; strong team player.
  • Experience in warehouse operations.
  • Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, and lot/serial number tracking.
  • Knowledge of lean/5S practices.
  • Familiarity with carriers (UPS/FedEx/LTL) and shipping systems.
  • Forklift experience; certification or ability to obtain certification is an asset.
