Services Engineering is a key function of Services NAM (Americas). The function provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services. We will be mostly supporting our Aftermarket Customers with with engineering support to all products maintained and designed by Alstom that operate in the North American market (automated people movers, light rail vehicles, commuters, metros, locomotives), as well as several of the infrastructure components (guideways, stations, depots, electrification and power distribution). We are 230 professionals located in 17 different sites across the continent.

 

The position is posted for our Mississauga (CA) sites or Naperville (US). In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.

 

As a Aftermarket Kitting Engineer what are my responsibilities?

 

As the Aftermarket Kitting Engineer, you will apply your technical knowledge to design, overview , compile, verify and validate kitting solutions for the customer. You responsibilites will include:

  • Develop the kitting assembly and P/Ns in the system(GSI)
  • Directly work with Customer for input and Provide customer technical support as needed.
  • Compile and Modify Technical Publications including Graphics and Create Templates
  • Oversee the Kit Build Process and Quality Checks

 

You will actively participate and contribute to the aggressive growth of the Parts & Components business. You will support a customer outreach program to proactively generate business opportunities, such as major overhauls of Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreements (TSSSA). You will:

 

  • Ensure all the kit proposal will be meeting the customer specifications in form, fit and function, railway safety, reliability, industrial norms, and standards.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the project specification and its requirements relating to the assembly and kitting tasks associated with the parts requested.
  • Coordinate and lead efforts with vendors to confirm compliance with customer requirements. You will interface with the end customer and vendors to ensure compliance and validity of the design.
  • Provide instructions to drafters and designers for the development and preparation of schematics, layouts, assembly, and detail drawings. Provide engineering support during the production of the part, specify and select electrical or electronic components to be applied in the parts.
  • You will work in multi-disciplinary teams with Customers, Project Managers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Auditors, Platform (Tenders, Reference Library, REX), Quality, Validation and Testing.

 

What do I need to qualify for this job?

 

Have experience in rail industry standards and design or with similar industry products such as transportation vehicles, and/or high-low voltage equipment, and discrete electronic components. Have experience in preparing procurement specifications and technical requirements from customer specifications to drive the design of the parts requested. Understanding of engineering design change process, basic design for manufacturing, GD&T, etc

  • Experience with Technical Writing, IPC, Maintenance Manuals, Tech Pubs, etc.  
  • Strong Communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Independent Worker who is self motivated , but works well with multi dispaplinary teams .
  • 10% travel expected to customer site for during  sale phase and project start
  • Customer First Attitude/Customer Contact for Kits - open  commmunication with customer 

 

Candidate must be versatile, very autonomous, with hands-on experience, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment in unclear and ill-defined environments, and resourceful in finding information through multiple forms of  communication.

 

Minimum Qualifications  

 

  • University or Technical College degree in Railway Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical,  Manufacturing, or equivalent 
  • 5 years of industry-related experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge of rolling stock systems and components.
  • Knowledge of kitting and assembly 
  • Proficient in the use of electrical/electronics design tools, MS Office, PDM, SAP, GSI, and Maximo (other ERP tools).
  • Knowledge of Alstom Design for Quality processes.
