The Project Systems Engineer will define system hardware and software requirements, and system design for Positive Train Control Systems.  This position will be responsible for defining system requirements and developing technical solutions to support modernization of rail freight and commuter train control systems thoughout the world. Alstom is looking for an individual with a strong Systems Engineering background in defining System Requirements and developing total system solutions.


The Systems Engineer (PTC Solutions) Responsibilities include:

  • Understand and communicate the customer needs based on the RFP Requirements.
  • Capture customer requirements in System Requirement Specifications.
  • Clarify implicit or incomplete requirements, and lead technical meetings with Customer to gain approval on the additional/rewritten requirements.
  • Use DOORS for Requirements Management.
  • Define system database requirements.
  • Work with and lead development teams.
  • Development of Requirements Compliance Matrixes.
  • Identify project gaps and evolution path for solutions.
  • Design system solution in line with project needs.
  • Communicates system solution with project and engineering management.
  • Define internal and external system interfaces.
  • Ensure solution components are developed properly.
  • Comply will engineering design processes.
  • Define technical solutions for new Tender opportunities.
  • Determine system migration and deployment strategy.
  • Develop Operational Context Description.
  • Support for internal and external Design Reviews.
  • Support for transverse activities including Safety, RAM, V&V, T&C.
  • Verify the gap analysis performed during tender phase at project launch.
  • Analyze the development requested and support the Alstom product units to validate the cost-effective design for deployment and maintenance of the System.
  • Participate in Kick-Off Meeting for every Baseline in order to validate Baseline Scope Freeze.
  • Facilitate (correspondence, meetings...) resolution of technical issues between the Alstom project solution and the Customer.  Be the central point of the Project for troubleshooting and root cause identification in all phases of the project.
  • Attend System Change Control Boards (CCB) in order to ensure that the implementation is aligned with the project solution.
  • Support V&V activities and Field Acceptance Test activities.
  • Support Product and System Training.
  • Propose system and product evolutions according to Return on Experience captured on projects.
  • BS Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline. MS in Systems Engineering a plus,
  • At least 5 years of experience working in developing systems solutions.
  • Experience in Rail Signaling industry is desired but not required
  • Willing to travel up to 30%.
  • Bi-lingual in French or Spanish is desirable.
