Role Summary:

Alstom has an opening for Chief Wayside Systems Engineer, reporting through its Melbourne, FL location. This position is for a highly motivated, energetic technical leader who will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will be responsible for driving the Systems Engineering activities necessary to deliver core and custom product enhancements across our Wayside Product portfolio.

 

Responsibilities:  In addition, you will:

  • Coordinate technical aspects of Product Development, working closely with Safety Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Validation Engineers – all in a global environment.
  • Define technical roadmaps for Wayside products and deliver tangible results to the business.
  • Provide leadership within the Systems Engineering Métier to develop quality Requirement Specifications, Architecture Documents and Design Documents in a timely fashion.
  • Work closely with Marketing Leaders and Program Managers to ensure customer requirements are evaluated and flowed down appropriately through System Specifications and Architecture Documents.
  • Participate in the tender phase of projects to ensure that only sound technical solutions are offered to customers. 
  • Supervise activities such as field issues and failure investigations, root causes analysis and implementation of corrective actions, REX incorporation and design standards updates.
  • Build solid relationships with key Customers and suppliers

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.
  • 10 years of experience in the area of embedded systems development for safety critical railway signaling applications - from concept development, to implementation, to successful commissioning.
  • Experience with the ElectroLogIXS and ElectroBlox product platforms developed at Alstom, and experience with the PTC implementations using those products.
  • Experience developing products in compliance with CENELEC and AREMA guidelines for safety critical railway applications. 

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiarity with DO-178B, FRA Rule 236.
  • Familiarity with hardware - electronic circuits and components in the areas of mixed signal design, high speed design, microcontrollers and DSPs.  Familiar with vital hardware principals.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Strong, demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
