Role Summary:


Alstom has an opening for Lead Systems Engineer, in its Melbourne, FL location. 

This position is for a highly motivated, energetic Lead Systems Engineer who will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will be responsible for driving the systems engineering activities necessary to deliver core and custom product enhancements across our Wayside, Onboard and Office Product lines.




 In addition, you will: 


  • Coordinate technical aspects of Product Development, working closely with Safety Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Validation Engineers.
  • Develop System Requirement Specifications, System Architecture Documents and System Design Documents.
  • Work closely with Marketing Leaders to ensure customer CTQ’s are evaluated and flowed down appropriately through System Specifications and Interface Control Documents 
  • Ensure that products meet all safety and functional requirements, and are validated 
  • Participate in the proposal process to insure that only sound technical solutions are offered to customers 
  • Implement the timely execution of product conceptual designs to meet evolving market needs 
  • Coordinate with design, project and system engineers during all phases of projects
  • Supervise activities such as field issues and failure investigations, root causes analysis and implementation of corrective actions, lesson learned incorporation and design standards updates 
  • Build solid relationships with key Customers and suppliers




  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Systems Engineering role – including experience developing System Requirement Specifications, System Architecture Documents and System Design Documents, or a minimum of 7 years in a related discipline that would demonstrate an ability to successfully perform Systems Engineering responsibilities.


Desired Characteristics:


  • Railroad, Aviation, Nuclear, Medical or other safety critical product development experience.
  • Experience developing products/systems containing embedded software.
  • Familiarity with CENELEC, DO-178B, FRA Rule 236 or other safety standards.
  • Familiarity with Data Analytics.
  • Familiartiy with SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware - electronic circuits and components in the areas of mixed signal design, high speed design, microcontrollers and DSPs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Agile development methodology.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Ability to understand and implement customer and industry standards.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment. 
  • Strong, demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.
