Your future role:

Alstom is seeking an experienced HR Manager for a permanent, standalone role supporting key functional areas of the business — including Quality, EHS, Finance, and more, based in either our Melbourne or North Sydney office. Reporting to the HR Business Partnering Lead for Functions, you will partner closely with functional leaders and people managers across the ANZ business, delivering proactive, value-adding HR support tailored to their needs.

You will:

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels across your functional client group
  • Support and coach managers through performance improvement processes, difficult conversations, and the full Performance Management Cycle, including reviews, objective setting, salary adjustments, and succession planning
  • Lead and support workforce planning activities, helping functional leaders assess in-house talent and develop strategies to identify and retain key people
  • Support change management, restructuring, redeployment, and organisational design initiatives within your client group
  • Partner with the Talent Development team to roll out learning and development and DE&I initiatives across your sites
  • Manage day-to-day generalist HR activities including onboarding, promotions, contract management, cost centre changes, resignations, terminations, and exit interviews
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to monitor recruitment activity and provide regular updates to key stakeholders
  • Support expatriate and visa processes in partnership with the mobility team, and assist with Compensation & Benefits activities
  • Maintain accurate HRIS data and ensure employee changes are processed correctly through relevant systems
  • Provide HR reporting, performance metrics, and data insights to support business decisions
  • Monitor site HR costs and contribute to broader HR projects as required

About you:

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • Bring proven experience in a generalist HR role within a similar industry or environment, with demonstrated capability across all areas of HR practice
  • Have demonstrated experience operating within a matrix organisation, with the ability to influence and build credibility without direct authority
  • Possess strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act and the ability to interpret employment contracts, Awards, and company policies
  • Show proven ability to support managers through performance, change, and employee relations matters with confidence and sound judgement
  • Demonstrate strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills, written and verbal along with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment, managing competing priorities effectively
  • Bring a collaborative, proactive approach and genuine enthusiasm for partnering with the business to drive people outcomes
