Have you ever wondered how much it costs to develop a train? Join us as a V.I.E. Engineering Cost Manager and you will find out.

 

Developing a train is a complex endeavour involving multiple Engineering disciplines, such as Carbody Design, Aerodynamics, Weight Performance, Human Factors, Eco Design, System and Software Development, RAMS, Testing, Certification and Authorization, Change and Configuration Management, Customer Documentation and several others.

 

This is an unique opportunity to balance technical and business aspects and connect the dots between Engineering technical activities and processes and their associated costs.

 

As a V.I.E. Engineering Cost Manager, you will be operating in an international multi-site environment and collaborate with stakeholders from multiple Engineering disciplines as also Finance, Project Management and Procurement to ensure the Engineering costs remain on track in Rolling Stock train projects or tenders. You will also be jointly looking for cost optimization possibilities and presenting the Engineering costing data in a structured, visually appealing way for the different stakeholders.

 

The successful candidate will become part of the Engineering Cost Management team in the site.

Main responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Engineering costing activities along cost centers / projects / tenders to meet the agreed objectives.
  • Ensure traceability and transparency of cost development versus budget and define activities on savings and mitigations.
  • Animate cost culture within Engineering community. You will be the “voice” of Engineering Cost Management.
  • Provide Engineering cost management deliverables on time according to finance schedules and support projects.

 

Main required competences

Educational:

  • Studying Business Administration or Industrial Engineering or comparable
  • Advance English knowledge
  • Basic Project Management knowledge (desirable)
  • Intermediate German knowledge (desirable)

 

Experience:

  • Experience in consolidating data and presenting in a visual appealing way
  • Basic knowledge on Engineering way of working
  • Knowledge of the rail industry (desirable)

 

Technical:

  • Advanced Excel knowledge (Tables, Pivots, Power Query) or ready to expand knowledge and solid Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to recognize product and associated costs, and understand engineering operational flows
  • Basic knowledge in SAP ERP and SAP Business Warehouse (desirable)
  • Knowledge in data visualization tools such as Power BI or Qlik Sense or ready and motivated to learn (desirable)
