We are currently looking for a

System Engineer for our location in Mannheim, Germany

 

The System Engineer is responsible for concepts, specifications and the integration of functions and subsystems into the locomotive. In collaboration with customers and mostly internal suppliers, technical solutions are implemented with respect of national and international standards and requirements. The electrical architect is responsible for the correct integration of all requirements and their verification. In addition, he/she has to ensure that the solution can be authorized and has to deliver all needed evidence.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical concepts and solutions based on requirements regarding operability and performance.
  • Involve all key stakeholders in order to understand their concerns / needs and define a cohesive concept at vehicle level.
  • Interfacing with the design and implementation engineers, to ensure correct implementation so that any problems arising during design or implementation can be resolved in accordance with the fundamental design concepts, and users' needs and constraints.
  • Ensure that a maximally robust and extensible design is developed.
  • Discuss issues and lessons learned with other engineers Alstom wide.
  • Use the simulation tool for validating its derived requirements and functional behavior (if applicable).
  • Ensure that all architectural domain and product definitions are maintained following the precept of the functional baselining management.
  • Coordinate all interfaces (e.g. SW engineer, safety engineer, subsystem suppliers) to ensure that the implemented solution fulfills the required functionality.
  • Verify the concepts in the lab and on the vehicle.
  • Identify technical issues/needs and propose technical improvements.
  • Propose solutions that can improve Alstom and/or customer value.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (power electronics, electrical drives o. s.)
  • Work experience of typically more than 4 years preferable in the development of railway vehicles.
  • Expertise in at least one area of specialism in power electronics, electrical drives or similar.
  • Knowledge of relevant norms and standards would be a benefit.
  • System thinking capability is mandatory
  • Fluent English and German is mandatory.
  • DOORS know how would beneficial.
