Due to an internal promotion, we now have a vacancy for a Trainer Assessor to join us in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. This role is critical in maintaining the capability of Alstom to meet the demands of our customers.


Purpose of role

The role of Trainer Assessor is a pivotal position within Alstom and requires a capable engineer who is confident in managing their own workload and communicating with all levels of employee from shop floor to senior management. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and capable of working within a team and on their own, flexibility is a core requirement.


The role is based around a flexible work pattern including dayshift, nightshift and some out of hours working. Alstom Trainers are attached to one site but work as a team and are expected to attend any site within the UK, when required. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter who is passionate and has the willingness to learn and develop. 


What are my key responsibilities?


  • Undertake training needs analysis in areas of responsibility.
  • Design and develop training modules and material related to various types of rolling stock.
  • Deliver training modules to maintenance staff located in depot and at TCP’s
  • Develop and manage the performance of all team members and ensure that long-term skill requirements are met.
  • Develop detailed site training plan.
  • Encouraging change through learning and personal development.
  • Become a role model for The Traincare Centre.
  • Identifying and developing suggestions for improvements so that both Maintenance and overall Traincare Centre performance is continually enhanced.
  • Provide technical guidance to Maintenance Teams.
  • Identify and document Safety Critical Work for Maintenance staff to ensure the competence of persons performing Safety Critical Work, by application of the competence management system.  


What do I need to qualify for this job?


Essential Requirements


  • Level 3 qualifications in Mechanical and / or Electrical Engineering (ideally dual skilled)
  • Driving license


Other advantageous requirements


  • A recognised assessor qualification – does not have to be current (Full training provided if required)
  • Additional training capability in crane and / or forklift truck operation
  • Experience in a rail or a heavy engineering environment.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft packages
  • Experience in a safety critical environment
  • Experience in developing blended learning packages.
  • Supervisory experience
