Carry out RAM related activities in Projects & Programs in line with QCD objectives and looking for optimization of RAM performance while being mindful of other constraints (such as life cycle cost, safety, standards, etc.).


Organisation structure:

Central Signaling RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) structure.

Reports directly to:

Direct report line to local RAM department head.

Other reporting to:

Dotted report line to Project Manager or Program Manager.

Accountabilities & Authorities

Key accountabilities:


  • Within each Project or Program, the RAM Engineer oversees carrying out the RAM activities, such as: RAM Plan, RAM report, product or system-level RAM prediction, RAM Monitoring plan and reports, RAM demonstration test plan and reports, and other deliverables described in the RAM Instruction.
  • Apply the RAM Process and Methods Work Method Statements and Guidelines.
  • Make Design recommendations based on RAM studies (Application of ‘Design for Reliability’ and ‘Design for Maintainability’ guidelines) and verify adequacy of architecture choices to System or Product RAM targets.
  • Specify and oversee RAM demonstration tests when required.
  • During the operation and maintenance phase, the RAM Engineer validates field failure data collected by the Warranty team and issues the 2-page RAM monitoring reports; supplies them to the RAM RoX Leader of the CoE; supplies necessary inputs to compute accurate RAM KPIs, etc.
  • In close coordination with the Quality function, he/she takes part in the reliability growth management process.

Educational Requirements




  • Engineering degree


  • Degree in Dependability (RAM)



RAM or RAMS function – Intermediate profile with at least three years of experience in the field.



  • Railway Signaling solutions, knowledge of architecture and functionality
  • Electronics engineering
  • Software engineering
  • Maintenance and Integrated Logistic Support

Competencies & Skills

  • Good bases in probability & statistics. Basic knowledge of data science methods & tools (data mining, machine learning, etc) would be a plus.
  • Good competencies in RAM analysis and prediction techniques on Systems & Products
  • Good competencies in RAM monitoring & demonstration (from field data)
  • Good knowledge of Signaling principles, architecture and functionality.
  • Teamwork
  • Computer literacy. Knowledge of programming languages would be a plus: VBA, C++, R, Python, etc.
  • Language skills: A full proficient use of English is mandatory to be able to write and explain RAM studies internally and externally. Any other language (especially French) is a plus.
