Transportation Superintendent is a direct report to the Assistant General Manager of Rail Operations (AGM-OPs) and has the principal responsibility to support the AGM of Ops with leading, managing and coordinating the Contractor's performance for all railroad train operations by trains crews locomotive engineers, conductors, and first level superviisors – road foremen, trainmasters, and closely related staff i.e., crew callers, crew cutting. Limited oncall work directive are anticipated but may occur relative to operating special trains, planned and unplanned bussing and making other special train moves.

Responsabilities

  • Ensure the overall supervision of all Designated Supervisors of Locomotive Engineers/Road Foremans.
  • Report directly to the Assistant General Manager of Rail Operations.
  • Represent Alstom and work closely with Metrolink daily.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily railway operations, focusing on safety and on-time performance.
  • Periodically ride regularly scheduled trains to determine employees’ compliance with rules and identify areas which may benefit from increased attention.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor train schedules, routing, and crew assignments to prevent delays and optimize resource utilization.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration among departments by facilitating communication and cooperation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and FRA guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies in railway operations.
  • Encourage continual professional development for staff within your areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure, by means of audit, that contractors meet the requirements of the business.
  • Managing organizational change in order to optimize working practices and thus ensure a productive workforce.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, incidents, and maintenance activities for regulatory reporting and compliance.
  • Assist in the development and management of the operational budget, monitoring expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and make informed decisions that enhance financial performance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and community representatives.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns regarding service issues and operational performance.

Skills & education

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent years of experience in railway operations or transportation management, with a focus on safety and compliance.

Languages:

English

 

Experience:

  • Locomotive Engineer Certification.
  • Completed an approved GCOR Training Program in the last 3 years
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a supervisor for an FRA regulated railroad.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a railroad engineer for an FRA regulated railroad.

 

Soft skills:

  • Good IT skills. Microsoft Office is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions, sense of urgency: sets priorities and reacts immediately when confronted with a problem.
  • Communicating with transparency delivers clear messages, listens to others, ensure the right approach depending on different stakeholders such as customers, team members, colleagues, superiors and supplier.

 

Salary Range:

 

$120,000.00 to $150,000.00 depending on experience/qualifications.

This position is eligible for Railroad Retirement.
