POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Undertake the required system engineering activities within the following areas:-

  • Implementation of Requirements Management processes across the project portfolio liaising with the UK Requirements Management process correspondent. This will involve planning requirements activities; capturing and identifying requirements; understand what makes a good requirement and encourage good requirement writing practices; support analysis, development and tracing of requirements; support V&V and Configuration


Management activities.

  • The role requires that support is provided to the project engineering and design staff to enable them to capture and manage project requirements within the approved Alstom tool set and to ensure that requirements management is also implemented in accordance with the Alstom process and tool set.
  • The role requires implementation of the organisation’s system engineering management processes with the project and design teams across multiple sites as required. This will involve supporting the project and design engineering teams with technical guidance, leadership and monitoring of the Alstom requirements tools set and processes.
  • Support the development of project technical instructions to enable the projects requirements activities to be formally documented. 
  • Mentor, coach and train non-project staff when required on the use of tools and process to support the development of formal requirements management within the UK environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The System Requirements Manager Engineer reports to the UK Requirements Management process correspondent, the role will require work to be executed across the company’s project portfolio.
  • Training of staff on the Alstom requirements tool set and support definition of staff competence.
  • Support Design and Project Engineering staff to capture project requirements and effectively implement the process using the approved Alstom tool set.
  • Set up and define the requirements management structure in line with the Alstom approved processes and using the approved tool set during the tender phase, update upon contract award and maintain the requirement management throughout the project life cycle.

 

To meet the key deliverables of the role the System Requirements Manager shall be responsible for the following

tasks:

  • Liaising with the UK Requirements Management process correspondent.
  • Produce and/or maintain the project Requirements Management Plan.
  • Create and maintain the project in DOORS.
  • Perform key user duties for DOORS.
  • Analyse the stakeholder needs and expectations to establish the requirement’s for a system.
  • Liaise with client at various levels and the system design authority to confirm system requirement’s.
  • Work with the Verification and Validation and Configuration and Change management engineering teams to assign requirements to correct subsystem and maintain traceability record.
  • Ensure submitted entries are correctly populated and defined.
  • Setup plan and facilitate requirement’s coordination meetings particularly between subsystems and interfaces.
  • Verify that requirements and changes are clearly recorded with any supporting information documented/traceable
  • Support the production of the verification and validation reports.Confirm discipline CRE is recording requirements correctly, adequately defined, categorized.
  • Confirm issues are being actioned / progressed.
  • Provide project requirement’s management progress report / KPI reports.
  • Provide requirement’s management training as required.
  • Undertake line management responsibility of staff as required.
  • Support the Competence Manager with the execution of the internal competence management scheme.
  • Undertake mentorship, coaching and give seminars to support succession planning throughout the Engineering business.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
  • To co-operate, as far as is necessary, with any statutory requirement placed on the company.
  • Ensure that you do not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interest of safety or welfare.
  • To bring to the attention of your manager any perceived shortcomings in Health and Safety arrangements, situations or processes that are considered to be serious or which may present dangers to yourself
    or others. 
  • To only undertake safety critical or safety related activities that complies with your relevant competence or authority to work.


POSTHOLDER REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent Engineering Qualification


Experience:
Essential:

  • Excellent communications, report writing, and IT skills (Microsoft office) are required. Ability to work within a changing environment, and to meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience of working within a systems engineering process environment is essential. Knowledge of V life cycle. Use of DOORS and requirement’s capture.
  • Experienceof applying RSSB, Network Rail and Industry recognized standards is required.


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of GB Mainline, signalling design, installation or testing, with knowledge of railway construction methods and materials used is desirable.
  • Programming experience. Use of change control tools
  • Knowledge of Alstom processes and procedures
  • Experience of managing and mentoring staff.
