Alstom UK & Ireland Signalling, Systems & Infrastructure have an exciting opportunity to join their new project delivery team based in Barking, East London.  Alstom have recently been selected to deliver the signalling works to extend the existing Gospel Oak to Barking London Overground services and provide a new railway connection to the Barking Riverside development currently under construction.


As the Commercial Manager you will play a key role supporting the Lead Project Manager in delivering the commercial and contractual requirements of the project to ensure delivery of the planned works within budget, safely and within set timescales.


             As a Commercial Manager we need someone who can:


  • Provide commercial management and NEC contract expertise with clear guidance on contract requirements.
  • Manage the client change and claims accounts up to and including final account.
  • Implement a system for the recording of progress, delays, change and collation of contemporaneous records.
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies and best practice.
  • Lead in the negotiation of client and subcontract disputes, in line with agreed commercial strategy.
  • Identify and assess project-level risks and advise on avoidance and mitigation proposals.
  • Produce and issue client application for payments utilising programme Earned Value.
  • Maintain subcontract accounts including the issue of payment notices in accordance with contractual and legal requirements.
  • Contribute fully in project financial management and reporting.
  • Represent Alstom at project client, sub-contractors and supplier meetings.


    The successful candidate must have the following skills, qualifications & experience:


  • Substantial commercial experience working for a main contractor on a multidiscipline railway project.
  • Experience of conflict avoidance, management and dispute resolution procedures.
  • Understanding of planning and the use of programmes in the management of contracts.
  • Understanding of Health, Safety and Sustainability matters relative to the construction industry.
  • Proactive and ambitious commercial professional with ability to demonstrate previous success.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.


It is also desirable for candidates to hold (or be working towards) a recognised professional qualification or technical membership in commercial management.
