We invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the Reliability Maintenance Engineer position under Maintenance Department. The position will report to the Site Maintenance Engineering Manager and is based in Dunnottar.

Job Purpose

  • The role is responsible for ensuring that all systems and equipment operate reliably, efficiently, and consistently. This includes maximizing uptime, minimizing failures, and proactively identifying risks through root cause analysis tools such as FMEA, RCM, and FTA. The position also focuses on implementing predictive maintenance strategies, monitoring production losses, addressing high-maintenance-cost assets, and ensuring all lifting equipment complies with engineering standards and statutory requirements.
  • The incumbent will manage risks that could impact the organization’s strategic objectives across environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality, and production.

 

Key Responsibilities

Reliability & Maintenance Management

 

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate planned maintenance activities.
  • Conduct equipment criticality analyses to support maintenance strategies.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational and asset reliability risks, with emphasis on safety, health, and environmental impact.
  • Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and develop long-term corrective actions.
  • Manage asset lifecycle performance from design through to disposal, optimizing total cost of ownership.
  • Develop and implement preventive (PM) and predictive (PdM) maintenance programs to enhance equipment performance and lifespan.
  • Monitor system performance, analyze MTBF and MTTR data, and compile reliability reports.
  • Participate in designing and reviewing installation specifications, commissioning plans, and evaluating technical service providers.
  • Conduct and oversee FAT and SAT activities to ensure compliance with functional specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to embed reliability principles across the organization.
  • Lead major maintenance initiatives, including new equipment installations and system upgrades.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical equipment to ensure continuous production.
  • Execute and manage shutdown maintenance plans, including post-shutdown reviews for continual improvement.
  • Provide technical engineering support for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Assess and recommend equipment and spare parts purchases.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to enhance maintenance effectiveness and reduce costs.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards during all maintenance activities.
  • Close out findings from AZDP and ISO 14001 audits.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, repairs, and component replacements.
  • Prepare and present equipment performance reports, maintenance compliance, and KPI updates.
  • Provide input in key operational meetings, including Operations, EHS, and Inventory, to ensure alignment with the overall maintenance plan.
  • Ensuring statutory inspection and, testing on lifting and specialized equipment are executed as per Driven Machinery Regulation requirements.
  • Initiating and managing service levels agreements.

 

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, OEMs, and external service providers to ensure successful maintenance execution.
  • Manage contractor performance, ensuring adherence to SLAs and addressing non-performance proactively.

 

People Management

  • Prioritize resources, align team efforts, and cascade KPAs effectively.
  • Promote behaviors aligned with company values by inspiring commitment, encouraging teamwork, and supporting development.
  • Foster a high-performance culture that supports organizational vision and strategic goals.
  • Manage direct reports to ensure the function’s objectives are met, addressing non-performance and disciplinary matters where necessary.
  • Build capability through mentorship, coaching, and structured skills development.
  • Implement people management practices to enhance employee engagement, empowerment, skills development, retention, and succession planning.
  • Uphold company standards of integrity and ethics, ensuring these values are embedded in all processes and practices.
  • Act as a change champion for cultural, functional, and diversity initiatives.

 

  • Drive a learning culture within the team.
  • Develop and implement functional and leadership development strategies in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in asset management and reliability engineering.
  • Strong understanding of Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) studies.
  • Proficiency with various root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Proven team management capabilities.
  • Professional registration with ECSA as Engineer/Technologist/Technician (advantageous). Excellent communication.
