We invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for Paint Operator  position under the Motors Manufacturing Department. The position will report to  EPU Manager Motors  and is based in  Dunnottar, Nigel (Gauteng).

 

Job Purpose

Painting of the rotor, as well as supporting with the loading and cleaning (resin) of the completed stator frame windings between the VPI (Vacuum & Pressure Impregnation) and the various drying ovens.

 

Reporting to the EPU Manager / Group Leader / Production Team Leader

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Mixing solvents and paints according to the described ratio
  • Masking and painting the rotor
  • Loading and unloading the rotor into paint booth
  • Cleaning equipment after use and tidying area in accordance with 5S
  • Performing equipment and tooling self-inspections (blocked filters / nozzles etc.)
  • Checking drying times of the product, according to the VPI special process
  • Loading and unloading the wound stator in the various ovens and VPI according to these drying times
  • Cleaning excess resin from the product and Sorting of waste
  • Adhering to continuous improvement processes and teamwork
  • Complying with all safety rules & regulations
  • Detecting, anticipating and reporting minor manufacturing anomalies, as well as more complex defects
  • Participate in applicable continuous improvement initiatives for motor

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or N3 Certificate
  • Relevant experience within a manufacturing and/or similar environment
  • Previous experience mixing and preparing the paint for application
  • Good knowledge of painting, resin, hot product handling and lifting hazards
  • Able to operate, start and stop the drying / curing ovens
  • Read and interpret technical documents (work instructions, safety instructions, etc.)
  • Able to operate hand power tools, slings, drilling machines, grinders and other hand tools related to the job requirement
  • Have appropriate knowledge of water base paint and solvents base paint
  • Appropriate knowledge on paint equipment settings and controls
  • Understanding of paint defects and rectifications thereof
  • Understand cleaning, masking and preparing paint surfaces
  • Able to use the crane for assembly operations and move the product with pallet trucks

 

Special Requirements

 

Previous experience mixing and preparing the paint for application
