We invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for Electronics Technician position under Services department. The position will report to the Repairs Team Leader and is based in Midrand.

 

 

 

 

Job Purpose

To conduct precise testing and repairs on electronic equipment, including diagnostics at the printed circuit board (PCB) and component level, ensuring accurate fault detection and corrective actions. Adhere to turnaround times for returned products from PRASA to minimise train downtime, document and report repair outcomes to clients, and provide insights to Method Engineers for design enhancements to mitigate future faults. Perform preventative maintenance on automated test benches to support operational reliability and efficiency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Testing and Electronic Repairs

  • Conduct functional test on returned products.
  • Diagnose issues using Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and perform troubleshooting processes for each product and subsystem.
  • Define and implement repair processes for returned items from trains, ensuring adherence to engineering standards, safety, health and environment (SHE), quality, cost and delivery (QCD) and requirements.
  • Perform level 1 maintenance on test benches to ensure ongoing functionality.
  • Develop trouble shooting trees for each product and sub-system to streamline fault-finding processes.
  • Share return of experience (REX) on fault finding and repairs with the design authorities to improve product reliability.
  • Maintain and repair electronic equipment (replacement of modules).
  • Repair electronic boards and adhere to QCD and EHS requirements such as:
      • Coating of boards
      • Removal and replacement of components
      • Use of electronic measuring equipment
  • Perform serigraphy, CMS components cabling and soldering as required. 
  • Track and document assemblies for testing and repair e.g check history of repairs by capturing all relevant repair information on SAP / SES.
  • Clean assemblies before testing and repairs to perform accurate visual inspections.
  • Execute repair tasks for subsystem products and validate compliance with specifications and engineering standards.
  • Check that tools and equipment are in good working order and ensure compliance with calibration requirements.
  • Follow test procedures to verify conformance to technical specifications.
  • Perform quality checks and self-inspections before releasing repaired products.
  • Complete documentation and technical reports detailing root causes and repair solutions.
  • Recommend the scrapping of irreparable products or suggest the outsourcing of repairs when necessary.
  • Organise and manage the storage of replacement components and assemblies.
  • Ensure all tools are certified and calibrated, maintaining compliance with industry standards.
  • Support effective communication within the repair team and ensure alignment on repair processes and requirements.
  • Monitor production processes, conduct basic testing and perform quality checks to ensure output meets requirements.
  • Propose and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency and safety.
  • Clean and maintain work areas and machinery in a good state adhering to 5S rules.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Attend regular team briefings to share REX and gain guidance from support teams.
  • Report accidents, incidents and the completed work.
  • Train new team members on repair processes, standards and safety practices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on automated test benches to ensure consistent operational performance.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma S4 in Electronic Engineering, IPC 7711/7721 or IPC A 610 Certification.
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering (advantageous)
  • 3 - 5 Years Experience in:
    • Testing and repairing of electronic products. Test (Electrical) Engineering experience in an electronic factory. Exposure to all relevant industrial processes (assembly and testing) and knowledge of automated testing equipment (ATE’s).
    • Electronic products (PACIS), TCMS and ERTMS equipment exposure. (advantageous)
    • Electronic repairs of boards or PCBA’s experience. (advantageous)
  • Registered or registrable with the ECSA. (advantageous)
