Journeyman Electrician

Hourly rate: $46.63

This position is responsible for operating, controlling, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and adjusting facility electrical systems. Work is typically performed alone but may be performed as a member of a team of other Electricians or experienced personnel from other Departments. This role executes all work assignments within the constraints of authorized expenditures and applicable departmental standards.

Responsibilities: 

• Identify and execute electrical and mechanical system preventative maintenance (PM) procedures to prevent breakdowns, prolong equipment life and minimize interruptions impacting the customer.
• Troubleshoot building electrical systems to identify and correct system or equipment problems.
• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Advise management on whether the continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Able to read schematics/blueprint and NEC knowledge.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes and data loggers to ensure 
compatibility and safety of system. 
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
• Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
• Works within defined policies and procedures regarding both in normal and emergency situations.

  • Perform a variety of building electrical maintenance tasks assigned to those of the electrical trade.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain a rapport with employees and other personnel and the ability to deal courteously and effectively with others.
• Ability to exercise prudent and timely judgement in normal and emergency situations; thoroughly evaluate facts to follow through and effectively document actions taken. Ability to identify hazards and implement safety precautions associated with the work; ability to handle hazardous materials associated with the job in accordance with established laws and company policies.
• Must understand and execute oral and written instructions; maintain work orders and written records.

  • Must be able to use a pipe bending machine and other electrical equipment.
    • Ability to work variable hours and shifts.

 

Experience

Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, related controls and equipment or non-expired certifications and experience which equals five (5) years.
 
Education: 
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 30 lbs. or greater.

Must be able to bend and crawl into confined spaces.

Must be able to operate a Scissor lift and Boom requipment.

Must be able to walk or stand between 4 to 8 hours.

Must be able to work on ladders and on elevated platforms.

Must be able to work in different weather conditions (hot, cold, snow & rain).

 

Other Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license in accordance with NY State Motor Vehicle Laws.
