Your future role
As Coordinator, EHS Special Projects, you will ensure a safe and healthy working environment during our redevelopment efforts, minimize environmental impacts, manage historical pollution risks, and safeguard Alstom assets throughout the project.
Key responsibilities

Support Site EHS Leadership
Partner with the Site EHS Manager to advance redevelopment-focused EHS initiatives. Collaborate with project planners, safety managers, and contractors to embed safety and environmental considerations into every aspect of the project. Deliver proactive, on-site EHS guidance to prevent incidents, equipment damage, and environmental issues. - Conduct Risk Assessments & Hazard Mitigation
Carry out detailed risk assessments related to redevelopment tasks. Identify hazards before work begins and implement mitigation strategies to control risks. Promote a culture of proactive safety and encourage responsiveness to unsafe conditions. - Develop and Maintain EHS Management Systems
Assist in designing and implementing site-specific EHS procedures tailored to redevelopment needs. Ensure alignment with Alstom standards, ISO 45001, and Port Authority (PA) project requirements. Apply Alstom EHS tools, including AZDP, to drive site safety. - Ensure Regulatory and Corporate Compliance
Monitor redevelopment activities to ensure compliance with legal and internal EHS standards. Perform compliance checks to uphold all relevant Alstom and PA regulations. - Training and Awareness
Deliver focused EHS training to project personnel. Reinforce safety culture through communications, education, and recognizing safe practices. - Emergency Preparedness
Support the creation and testing of emergency response plans tailored to redevelopment scenarios. Conduct drills to ensure readiness for fires, chemical incidents, weather events, or other emergencies. - Incident Management
Assist with investigations of incidents and near misses related to redevelopment work. Ensure timely reporting and implement corrective and preventive actions. - Reporting and Documentation
Contribute to monthly EHS reporting, focused on redevelopment metrics. Keep accurate records and maintain entries in the EHS Teranga system per project requirements. - Site Inspections and Audits
Conduct routine inspections and audits of redevelopment zones. Identify discrepancies and ensure timely corrective action is taken. - Continuous Improvement
Work with internal teams to identify and implement EHS improvements across redevelopment projects. Share lessons learned and promote best practices to support future initiatives.
Education & Qualifications

Required:
– University Engineering or Business degree
– Health & Safety qualification recognized by enforcing authorities (where applicable) - Desirable:
– Environmental qualification at diploma or degree level
Experience
-
Minimum 1 year professional experience in Environment, Health & Safety (adjustable depending on site size)

Strong understanding of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001 standards

Solid knowledge of local EHS legal requirements

OSHA 30‑hour certification for Construction and General Industry
Desirable extras:
-
Prior safety experience in manufacturing or regional centers

NYC DOB 62‑hour SST certification
-
Experience with safety audits and inspections
-
Ability to review and interpret E-Builder, blueprints, and MEP schematics
Competencies & Skills

Valid New York State driver’s license and eligibility to drive company vehicle

Proficient in Microsoft Office and continuous improvement tools
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk outdoors for 4–12 hours per day in various weather conditions, including snow and rain
