Alstom has an opening for an Interlocking Systems Engineer, in its Jacksonville, FL, Rochester, NY, Melbourne, FL offices.

 

Objective

The Interlocking Systems Engineer will work as part of a team of system engineers to complete the specification, architecture, interface specifications, and system integration of interlocking systems and projects.

In this role you will provide all the necessary support to the System Engineering Manager (SEM) / Project Engineering Manager (PrEM) for the technical answers to the specific project needs. You will also provide some direction to junior engineers and work independently to complete project tasks.

 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Translate customer needs into achievable system requirements
  • Develop the (sub)system architecture 
  • Develop interface specifications for external interfaces as well as interfaces between internal sub-systems
  • Ensure technical consistency and feasibility of sub-system requirements with sub-system team leaders
  • Ensure technical consistency with application engineering, product design, requirements management, safety, reliability, and V&V teams
  • Apply Alstom standard processes and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
  • Apply Procedures concerning Configuration, Documentation, and Change Control.
  • Support the project team for technical discussions with the customer.
  • Participate in internal technical meetings called by the PrEM or the Project Architect.
  • Develop the system documents, including plans, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Develop interlocking cutover strategies which align with the project migration plan.
  • Ensure that the system performance fulfils the defined needs and enhancements (change requests) 
  • Apply the system engineering process
  • Perform block design tasks such as block layout, safe braking distance verification, runtime simulations, approach locking calculations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college with at least 4 years of System Engineering or Rail vehicle simulation modeling experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in systems engineering, block design simulations, or equivalent design experience
