Maintenance Engineering Manager

Your future role

An opportunity has become available to join our team as our Maintenance Engineering Manager for our Queensland Next Generation Rollingstock (QNGR) contract. Based in Wulkuraka, QLD and reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for leading the Engineering team to optimise the performance, reliability, and availability of the NGR fleet, with safety at the forefront of all activities. You will drive the engineering strategy, manage risk and compliance, and champion continuous improvement and innovation to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective outcomes. Working closely with key internal and external stakeholders, you will also develop team capability and foster collaboration to achieve sustainable operational and business objectives.

The QNGR contract is one of Alstom ANZ’s most critical operations. A multidisciplinary team of over 250 is dedicated to ensuring the reliability and availability of Queensland’s NGR train fleet. Operating 24/7, the majority of work is carried out at our Wulkuraka facility, with smaller teams positioned across the Southeast Queensland rail network. This is a pivotal time to join us as we continue to optimise operations, build capability, and deliver a reliable fleet for the state of Queensland under our long-term maintenance contract.

We’ll look to you for:

• Leading and developing a high-performing Maintenance Engineering team.
• Defining and delivering the engineering strategy, roadmap, and key objectives.
• Driving performance against safety, quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) targets.
• Managing engineering risks, design changes, configuration control, and obsolescence planning.
• Improving asset reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Championing innovation, new technologies, and engineering-led cost reduction opportunities.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance products, services, and operational outcomes.
• Ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and certification requirements.
• Developing engineering capability through coaching, mentoring, and skills development.
• Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver business outcomes.

• Expertise in engineering risk management, compliance, and configuration control.
• Track record of delivering continuous improvement, innovation, and reliability enhancements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
• Demonstrated experience in Rollingstock Engineering and asset lifecycle management.
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline).
• RPEQ accreditation (or eligibility to obtain).
