PURPOSE OF THE JOB
|
The role of the Electrical Systems Engineer will lead the Electrical Systems to improve the safety, financial, availability and reliability performance of the QNGR fleet by developing safe, compliant, practical, sustainable, cost-effective engineering solutions. Working across all electrical systems on the QNGR Fleet.
The role will provide Electrical Engineering oversight, validation and corrective solution on all Electrical systems and intrinsic interfaces. It will also involve establishing systems according to the relevant standards, maintenance regimes and solutions to continually improve the performance and condition of the vehicles.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
|
- The Electrical Systems Engineer will work with the broader Engineering, Operations, Planning, QA and Project teams using their rolling stock practical experience to provide support to the fleet ensuring the RAMS and LCC targets are taken into account and solutions implemented. This role will also be responsible for delivering key projects as defined by the Engineering Manager.
- Be an active part of the execution of the Maintenance Optimization plan
- Support and execute the yearly Engineering Strategy, and Business Strategy.
- Ensures the Train System Engineering scope of assigned responsibility is well defined and delivered to the committed Quality Cost Deliver Performance (QCDP)
- Responsible for system verification and validation of key components required for life extension or Optimisation
- Development of a scope supported via business case for fleet improvements & extension initiatives
- Applying engineering principles to investigate improvements to current designs.
- Assessment and analysis of Multiple Unit condition to ensure that systems and appropriate actions are in place to maintain contractual compliance
- Establish systems and mechanisms for recording, analysing, reporting and investigating performance data
- Applying engineering principles to investigate rolling stock fault trends and establish their root cause based on 8D
- Write Technical Procedures for the operations teams as required
- Undertake engineering based risk assessments for the project team as required
- Performing cost benefit and risk analysis for the proposed solutions to assess viability within the constraints of the contract or budget
- Lead and implement projects concerned with Engineering & / or Performance aspects of the A&M Services contract
- Developing, validating and optimising overhaul intervals and specification for major components based on results of risk analysis, specifications and Multiple Unit condition
- Assessment and analysis of Multiple Unit condition to ensure that systems and appropriate actions are in place to maintain contractual compliance
- Support FRACAS investigations and Product Safety Reviews
- Drive the use and implementation of technology across the team from an engineering and performance perspective
- Support the Depot Asset Coordinator in respect of Depot Assets and Equipment from a Maintenance Schedule (TMP), Compliance and Performance perspective
- Developing, reviewing and modifying work instructions and procedures.
- Writing, obtaining approval and issuing Modifications, Fleet Checks and Special Checks as the need arises in order to proactively manage the fleet performance
- Work closely with the project team to ensure to understand the DFM philosophy being inculcated into the design phase by Rollingstock engineering and Suppliers for all Improvements/Modifications made to the current fleet.
- Actively support the design engineers during the concept and detail design phases to ensure Reliability and Maintainability is considered for all components, sub-assemblies and systems.
- Provide input to and support the supplier selection process to ensure all of life cost considerations are taken into account
- Provide Engineering support as required to other QLD Maintenance teams & projects. Undertake safety assessments, work safely in a high risk environment and be safety focused.

MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES
|
|
Mandatory:
- Electrical Engineering degree
- RPEQ Electrical or ability to gain one
- Strong knowledge of Rolling Stock related standards and the Rail Safety Act
|
- Knowledge of Main Ciscuit Breaker, Transformer architecture desirable
- Strong technical understanding and ability.
- Strong knowledge of Rolling Stock (QR & National) related standards and the Rail Safety Act
- DFM Principles

Mandatory:
- Detailed investigative skills supported by data
- Proficient in writing technical documentation and delivering detailed instruction.
- Practical experience working in a maintenance and fleet performance environment.
- Experience in a similar role preferably in the rail industry
