Could you be the full-time Methods Engineer to join our team in Ilford and be a key member of the team based at Ilford depot, by playing a key role in developing practical and cost-effective solutions that support the introduction of new projects, improve production layouts, and contribute to business proposals?

 

Your future role

 

In this role, under the guidance of the Methods Manager, you will evaluate the requirements of Engineering, Operations, support functions, and Customers to develop and implement solutions that maximise the organisation's tools, systems, and resources. 

  • Develop and implement effective solutions for maintenance and refurbishment activities in line with engineering and operational requirements.
  • Test and introduce new working methods, production layouts, and technologies while applying lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency.
  • Identify and specify equipment, calibrated tools, and special processes, and create clear instructions for their use.
  • Define standard task times and produce easy-to-follow documentation for manufacturing, including parts lists, time estimates, and step-by-step work instructions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, apply lean methods, and help drive overall performance gains across the business.
  • Contribute technical input to cost-saving initiatives, support tendering efforts, and help introduce new work into the depot.
  • Ensure safety risks are properly assessed, documented, and mitigated, and provide support to other departments as required

  • HNC/HND or equivalent experience in relevant discipline associated with Production Engineering. University degree in Railway Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Automation Engineering or Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of production/process engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of implementation of improvement methods
  • Knowledge of Standard Operation procedures, tools and techniques
  • Understand modern manufacturing techniques – JIT, Kanban and when and how to implement
  • Experienced with industrial engineering techniques such as method study
  • Problem analysis and problem solving.
