Train Manager

 

Purpose of the Job/Objective:

  • She/He will be responsible for coordination and control of activities on test trains that will be used for the integration, tuning, validation and certification activities that are necessary to receive authorization and operate them in revenue service.
  • Involve in training and train management aspects, while the train is still in the Hornell manufacturing facility. Once testing is completed in Hornell, the first trainset will transition to Pueblo Colorado and the second trainset will transition to Philadelphia Pennsylvania for additional testing. The Train Manager will follow the train to the remote test site and need to be more autonomous in the execution of their responsibilities when this transition occurs.
  • Ensures the adequate train preparation and availability to run during all phases like integration, tuning, validation, certification activities and manages tests execution.
  • Zero severe accidents – permanent update of prevention plan and procedures. Ensures EHS management during heavy Rolling Stock testing.

 

Responsibilities at the Rolling Stok site (Hornell):

  • Represent the Project Test and Commissioning Manager (PrTCM) on board the train, during static and dynamic testing.
  • Training with the team to understand all details of the responsibilities outlined in this job description.
  • Developing contacts within the team to fulfill the responsibilities in remote location.
  • Enhance and complete the preliminary procedures used to manage the activity associated with the train testing at the remote site.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of tests in accordance with the planning.
  • Report progress on activity taking place, failure reports to all stakeholders
  • Manage and monitor the configuration of the train with the design engineering team.
  • Preparing the test implementation (staffing, availability of tools, measurement devices (for AT measurements), and on-board spare parts, ...
  • Checking the ability of the train and its environment to complete the test.
  • Organizing/Reserving the track slots with the Serial Test manager.
  • Giving instructions to the driver.
  • Producing failure reports to the Tests Manager.
  • Producing the test book (test events chronology).
  • Responsible for the overall safety of the test (EHS) and has to make sure that all people on board the train know these EHS rules.
  • Managing the First Aid Box and knowing alert’s channels in case of accidents
  • Respect the tests schedule and duration

 

 

Responsibilities at the remote test sites (Pueblo/ Philadelphia):

  • Represent the Project Test and Commissioning Manager (PrTCM) on board the train, during static and dynamic testing.
  • Coordinate the test implementation (staffing, availability of tools, measurement devices, and on board spare parts,..) together with the Test Manager (CV - Certification and Validation).
  • Ensure the correctness of the train status for the planned test activities.
  • Is the primary point of contact, together with the test manager (CV), who will interface with all stakeholders at the test facilities.
  • Coordinate the short and medium-term tests scheduling and securing the authorization for use of track or other necessary services.
  • Is to be the person responsible for the official notification to the test site for the start and completion of testing on daily basis.
  • Manage the presence of internal and external personnel who will participate in the tests and ensures their training and safety.
  • Coordinate logistical requirements and shipment to and from site.
  • Is the primary point of contact in case of accident and will be responsible for elevating emergency notifications.
  • Makes sure the trains configuration is proper managed, including the authorization and scheduling of modifications on the train.
  • Checking the ability of the train and its environment to complete the test.
  • Carrying out all relevant tests which are required by ALSTOM.
  • Support Test Managers and other stake holders by producing failure reports, test events book and failures investigations

 

Skills & Experiences:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Master Degree will be a diferential)
  • Experienced Test or Certification/Validation Technician
  • Industrial/Technical background, and experiences preferably in the railway/relevant industry,  ideally in an international organization.
  • Structured and organized approach to the job
  • Coordination skills and ability to take decisions
  • General knowledge of the product
  • English Fluent

 

Team Size:

 

  • No dedicated team, but coordination of all the actors as Functional Manager / Matrix as part of the Core Team  on board the train (5 to 50 people: technicians, suppliers, engineering, validation, visitors, journalists, VIP’s etc.)
